Romney the Bully

He wasn't exactly a child - this happened a few months shy of his HS graduation.And the character question for me involving this story is this: one of his cohorts, knowing how strict the school was regarding discipline, totally expected Mitt to get a punishment. But no one in the school administration admonished Mittens over this assault. Why? His daddy George was reportedly very involved with this prep school. Did his family connections get him a pass?His character seems to lead him to believe he's above answering for his own actions.

Typically graduation age is closer to 18 years old - I graduated one month shy of my 18th.Mormon youths like Romney are expected to go on their missionary trip at around that age. Two years of preaching in another country, on their own; sounds pretty adult to me.

Of course people can change! I'm not the same as I was at 17, although I was living on my own, going to HS, & managing my financial affairs. So I kinda expect Mitt to be around the same level at that age.But as I said, this story is more of a tell about Mitt's sense of entitlement: 'Sure I can assault a weirdo kid in school - it's just horseplay. I can't have undocumented workers caring for my lawn - I'm running for President, for Pete's sake! It's our turn to move into the White House.' Stuff like that.And this isn't the only presidential candidate to have his character/judgement questioned by his school attendance & behavior. Madrassas, anyone?

His most recent response to the incident also highlights his character.Sure, some might excuse this as a 40+ year old youthful transgression. But for him to laugh & chuckle about it as he 'apologizes' for something he claims not to remember, shouldn't that give one pause?I think a man of good character would respond better.

Is this discussion (getting into) hypothetical territory, or has anyone actually experienced having their hair cut against their will in high school?Has anyone seen this kind of action at any point in school?Apparently the kid who had this actually happen to him didn't report it to authorities, or if he did it was ignored. And, since he didn't tell anyone in his family about it, he obviously felt very privately about his reactions.BTW - this did happen to a sophomore with whom I went to school. He went home & killed himself. No one was charged with anything.

Actually, it was done 'in good fun' - not in a mean spirited way at all. It was a standard hazing ritual for new varsity football players. The suicide even knew it was coming, & did all he could to avoid the gang sent to haze him.I sometimes wonder if those boys ever felt any remorse.

It was definitely standard procedure, that's why he avoided the confrontation as best he could for several weeks. And yes, it was the hair. This was the time of Barry Gibb hair & he was quite proud of his BG 'do. His note said he couldn't face being bald, even for the varsity squad. Romney, a product of his up bringing, is hopelessly out of touch with the way the world works for average folks.You hear it in the way he talks (aircraft? chambermaid? 'maaavelous'?), you see it in his actions (it never occurs to him that he could be held accountable), you read about his wealthy hobbies (dressage?).He's incapable of connecting with the regulars & riff-raff of everyday life.Very off-putting, for my tastes.
