I'm properly evaluating it, I expect intelligent people to take my word for it.
What you said about questions about the China Study reminded me that science is wrong a lot of the time when it does statistical kinds of studies, which is one reason I don't care a lot about what studies have to say. It's worth noting conclusions they come to but I wouldn't trust them any more than, or even as much as, a good anecdotal account of the effect of eating a certain kind of diet. If an enormous study like the Chine Study can be questioned, anything can be questioned, and probably should be. And the questioners aren't to be treated like they know any better either. In the film I keep mentioning a very earnest government agency dietitian preaches the low fat high protein diet we've all been taking for granted for so many decades. She's wrong but she believes every word she says and she has tons of studies to back her up. Putting science on a pedestal hasn't done us much good healthwise for a long time. It's necessary and useful but as I said simple anecdotes may be more trustworthy in some cases. When Annette Larkins tells me she's strong and energetic and healthy as can be on her own garden-grown diet without any protein or Vitamin B12 supplements, I believe her completely. The woman is in her mid seventies and looks thirty. And her poor husband who continued to eat the normal American diet is on all kinds of medications and finally regretting it. Even though I'm gung ho this plant-based point of view I'm adjusting my ideas of how I want to make use of it to suit myself by taking all kinds of information from many different sources into account. I think that's the only sensible way to do this, and instead of digging up a bunch of questionable statistics I just say if this interests you at all then follow up on it, or shelve it for some future change of mind.

quote: Expecting intelligent people to be stupid is hardly sensible. How many of these studies have you critically examined ? If you can’t do it yourself have you looked for informed criticism from other sources ?
quote: So, you prefer worse evidence. Statistical tests - when done properly - are pretty much essential in these sort of studies.
quote: In other words she disagrees with the people you have decided to believe and she likely has good evidence.
quote: And they are often far, far worse. There are reasons why quacks prefer anecdotal evidence. You might want to think about that.

You are a world class naysayer and fault finder, you deserve a medal of some kind.
You're welcome to your opinion though I know you don't feel the same about me. ABE: Actually I don't know if she has tons of studies to back her up, I simply assume it because she's got an official government position. But maybe it's just the usual commonsense stuff that science sometimes takes for its own position. Atkins had lots of research to back him up too, and it wasn't wrong either. Ah, using ad hominem to cover up the fact that you haven’t investigated the claims properly and use poor standards of evidence.

Faith writes: I'm properly evaluating it, I expect intelligent people to take my word for it. Then you will be disapointed at every turn. Intelligent people are sceptical about these sorts of claims and you have a history of believing utter bullshit. You've got a credibility problem, you're searching for magical answers and you do not understand what either science or evidence actually is. But here you're referring to what appear to be actual scientific studies so you need to produce them, that's how it works. Scientists and intelligent people don't take somebody's word for such things - not even yours - they insist on seeing the work.Je suis Charlie. Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif. Je suis Parisien. Yawn. If you sent anything it would be unpleasant I’m sure. And you’ve said you want to hit me more than once. So, I’ll pass. The satisfaction of deflating your false pride again is all,the reward I need.

I'm not interested in the studies enough to put in the effort. I don't think they are important, as I said, and enough information has been given in the films anyway.

Oh I see, you're on a personal vendetta. That explains a lot.

Oh it isn’t personal at all. That’s just your false pride speaking again. Maybe you should try being a Christian and show a little more humility and concern for the truth.

Here I think I'll register another Bible-based objection of my own to this dietary system. I believe the system is true, I believe it works but I'm also aware that it rejects foods that the Bible describes as the standard diet of the Israelites.
For instance the promoters of this diet keep saying how milk is good for calves and not humans and they get all philosophical about that, although milk and milk products are treated as staples in the Bible and have been staples of diets in many cultures around the world, as cheese and yogurt and butter and "curds and whey" among other things. The Promised Land is described as a "land of milk and honey." I figure it's either the hormones and antibiotics and other drugs that they now feed to cows that's the real problem, or maybe it's that we've just reached a point in the effects of the Fall where we can no longer tolerate some perfectly good foods our ancestors could tolerate. Such a standard dietary ingredient shouldn't be causing liver cancer in children so there has to be a cause that isn't the milk itself. Same with meats. God told Noah after the Flood to eat meats so something must have changed between then and now to make meat an undesirable food. Also there have always been cultures that depend almost entirely on meat, nomadic cultures for instance. Meat and milk. This is of course a separate issue from the obvious problems of over-processed foods and fast foods that are of our own making. In any case I take this diet as the answer to new problems we face whatever they might be, and as a gift from God insofar as it really does seem to have quite a range of important health benefits. Special mention added to your medal for accusing me of failing as a Christian. High achievement there.

The difference is of course related to entirely diametric thought processes. Faith belongs to the group that totally turns off any analysis at all and places total believe in the marketing that agrees with her prior position ignoring all reality and the actual Bible or actual history or any actual evidence.
It's an interesting process to observe.
