WCEJWPE: Why Can't Everybody Just Write Plain English?
I think the art of writing is quickly becoming something of the past with all that ridiculous shorthand stuff. Personally, I'd much rather read a well written post that is made up of grammatically complete sentences, well punctuated, and spelled correctly.
I don't mind the occasional use of acronyms like YEC, TOE, and such, but to foreshorten whole phrases like "as far as I am concerned" to something that sounds like a kicked dog is pure laziness, as far as I'm concerned. If we can't keep our thoughts tidy, as is demonstrated time and again on this site, then let's at least keep our language clean. Or is that asking too much?
I completely agree with this assessment. As a matter of fact, much of the points I took off while grading papers back in the old days were for sloppy writings. If you can't express your thoughts correctly in plain English, why should I believe that you are on top of the subject you are talking about?
While it is not as prevalent on this forum, I have noticed that people on the internet either don't care much for the English language or actually can't write. The amount of crappy writing nowaday is disappointingly great in quantity.
I'm not saying that my writing is perfect. But if you are going to spend the time to converse with someone else on a life or death topic like EvC, at least spend the extra 2 seconds write out the phrase rather than demanding that the other person spend the extra 2 minutes trying to figure out what TASF.
PS - Wouldn't it be funny if you were actually Jeri?
