Hi there people , ive spent the last 2 days going though these threads just because it interest's me a great deal, im glad i found this forum because the anwers are very indepth & the people really seem to know there stuff, i have many question's but first off i would like to know what is the actuall " Fabric of space" made out of & how can it keep stretching ,surely it can not keep expanding forever..?? If so how, why does it not tear..? i hope someone can anwser this in detail, i would really appreciate it. Thanks )

AdminNosy: I cleaned up the title a bit. I hope that is ok Fabric.

Re: just curious
Thanks for your anwser Eta Carinae, i understand what your saying about the sun & planet's curving space time, but what is actual space made out of, & if it is sretching how does it keep doing so without breaking in half or tearing ? cheers

Re: just curious
Ok i understand that , cheers, but if before the Big Bang there was an absolute nothing then space was created spontanously from the Big Bang then space has to be made out of something to exist , do you see what im trying to say here, i know space is a void but surely to exist it has to be made out of something? Or maybe not, i dont know thats why im asking. cheers Fabric.

Re: fairenough
Ok thanks people for all your comments , i did try to google my question but i just got information about general relativity & not pacific anwers to my question.
Maybe it was a bit of a silly question but i could not find the answer any where else, im happy with the conclusion that space is just that , space , & its not made of anything, its just a massive void where natural laws take place. Cheers Fabric

Re: Feynman's lectures.
Hi there RAZD, i watched that link about the properties of light & i just wounderd if you knew of any other lectures on real player or quicktime about quantum mechanics or space in genral, i found it very interesting, cheers. or if anybody else does that reads this message.

Mate if you really want to learn about space and the universe then you want to think of questions then google them and read stuff on-line, like myself
Self educate yourself rather than coming on here all the time because it is easyer and faster to gain knowledge imo, sure come on here and ask the odd question when stuck but if you truely want to learn and are an inquisitive person then theres so much information about these subjects on-line.
Wikipedia for example is great for layman's like me & you, link after link you can learn and also be fascinated by so much.
I hav'nt even read your OP but it seems you need to learn a lot more before starting a debate with these people as a lot of them are way ahead of you and you will get more educated by reading not arguing.
Just wait until you start reading about quantum fields and the atomic world, that should really get you interested and every answer has another question in my experience.
The universe is a truly amazing place & also very complex when you get to the fundamental questions of gravitation and what is it all made of ect...
I am just trying to be helpful here as i read lots of stuff on-line because i am also interested in the big questions, im 27 and shit at maths but the theory's and the complexity of the cosmos amazes me, especially particle physics.
Kev.

I think we will know if space is made out of energy or not when or if we find out if is discrete or not, if space is discrete and made from particles then surely it is energy as particles are forms of energy themselves..
Thats just thinking of the top of my head here i dont know how right i am, what are your thoughts cavediver on space being nice and smooth or being discrete ?
Of course then you get dark energy that we know near to nothing about, thats what makes
up most of the universe, so my above statement is pretty much useless yes ? lol

cheers cavediver, i figured that about V-Bird pretty much straight away though no disrespect is meant by that.
Is energy basically just the momentum of an object moving, the more momentum the more energy it has or if an object is still it has potential energy.
So "things" are not made from energy but yet they store it ?
The word energy has always confused me and i think is used to much sometimes
to describe natural phenomena.
Also that was a good response about space being discrete, i guess it makes sense that
when you go to those small distance scales it will look a lot different because it does already, like electrons, protons ect...
Also i thought sub atomic particles were made of energy, i thought objects like quarks, gluons, leptons ect etc were just single energy packets with a certain amount of energy and that amount of energy is what gives them the value they have, thats how we tell the difference between them.
What i really want to do one day is sit down with a decent physicist and ask him/her a bunch of questions, as i have so many and as much as i read i still dont understand things, but if someone explained them to me in person i would get such a better understanding of the questions i have..
