Yes, according to Genesis one there was light before day four when the sun, moon and stars (imo, stars here = Milky Way Galexy) were created. We also read that it was the Holy Spirit of God that did the "moving" on the waters. This is also implied in Psalms 104:30, where we are told the Holy Spirit effected the creation.
The Holy Spirit is that dimension/agent of God which is omnipresent, moving throughout the universe doing the bidding of God the Father who sits on the throne of Heaven. The Holy Spirit is also an agent of light and it is my belief that this Holy Spirit was the source of light on earth before the sun became that primary light.
