It might actually seem to be a preparation for an evacuation, for when humanity completes the trashing of planet Earth.

Absolutely. I think we're well on the way there, and making a new home, like in The Wrath of Khan (was it that one ?).....Anyway, when the "Genesis" project is complete... I reckon the first on it will be the rich and powerful.
