message #1
Cartoons and terrorists.
Proposed new topics
Sidelined outlines the pathetic emphasis on political correctness in a certain country, by expounding upon the intellectual bankruptcy of the ardently religious, whom think the world is out to get them and their profit, ahem........prophet.
This part amused me;
Sidelined writes:
First,Is there some drug induced coma that leads you to think that a cartoon that is insulting to the prophet is somehow going to be misunderstood and therefore worsipped as an idol? Are you so bereft of reasoning and constructive thought?
Forgive my use of the meme-word, freedom, but like that great tyrant over the pond has touted, "thank goodness for freedom". But never mind freedom of religion, how about freedom from it!
I declare that I have not named any specific deities or religious groups in this post. Forgive my ambigous use of grandiose efforts at poetically valid articulation. All retaliatory incumbently-based reasoning on your part, is rendered null and void pending evidence that I am partaking of antagonization by means of specific literature. I hereby plee via honourable decree, that I have full validity of a poetic license, untill atleast two thousand and twenty three.

Wow--I certainly didn't expect that. Thank you.
I must add that I find your attire impeccable.*

but if it's just where they're going when they die, that's between them and god. we do not control whether or not they are forgiven, and it's not our job to go around telling them that god does not approve.

Jar reminds us that creation stories are relative to cultural influences. The Bible is not the only book out there, and even if it IS true, people won't be magically convinced by any of us!

Parasomnium, at "Cartoons and common sense"
Author: Parasomnium

Thread: Cartoons and common sense

Essentially, a one sentence message. But it's a very good sentence, and IMO should be the focus point of further discussion in that topic.
Mark24 touched upon the same thing a bit, in the previous message, but Parasomnium did it better.

Thanks Moose, I appreciate your comment.
I just wish the occasion for this SOTM had been a happier one.

Cartoons and common sense
This is sort of a dueling POTM nom. I found Mod's post, though very short, to cut to the chase of the issue. I think this is another thread where posts on both sides are doing well in arguing their case. Maybe this is a trend?
In contrast to moose's statement I don't think Pars's post fully covers how the issue should be explored, and mod's finally sentence raises a very important way of viewing the issue (one I had been trying and failing to raise in many more sentences... concise is better).
People can figure it out for themselves in the thread of course.

Thanks, Ned. Hopefully I'll be able to continue the debate with Faith in another thread, as this one was closed down before we got started.

Thanks, Moose.
I apologize for the off-topicness--the curiosity of youth sometimes turns an old man's head all the way around, and, before you know it, with a wink and a nod we are co-conspirators.
Perhaps a thread in the Comparative Religion forum on the Varieties of Religious Retreats?
AbE: Though I guess it's too late to move it without disrupting the chain of posts...I'm not yet adept at this stuff, so I'll leave that call to you.

Perhaps the best "in a nutshell" argument against creationism I've ever seen. As a footnote to the above cited, also see Percy's previous message.

Yes it was. And also an interesting insight on God himself.
