don't you mean the change to paul-like behaviour?
jesus never condemned anyone. jesus supported peace. jesus sought to bring love. paul sought to divide brother from brother based on differing belief and "sin". jesus never said to remove someone from your life because they were sinful.
sorry. that was off-topic. but still. it could apply to the given situation. paul says that if your spouse leaves the church, it is as if you were never married.

sorry. qualifier. jesus never condemned anyone save those who abused others. and those who mispracticed jewish faith. immaterial. he freed adulterers and hung out with criminals. that's what i mean. the people that paul abuses... paul, who says you can be a christian without following christ in his jewishness. funny thing that.

1 corinthians 5 verses as follows.
"
9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person.
12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."*
"
for a start. christ doesn't avoid sinners. he's all about hanging out with 'unacceptable people'. paul revisits this idea again and again. that you must cast out sinners.
that people don't have to stay married to non believers thing? 1 corinthians 7.15
"But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases."
that's good marriage advice...
1 corinthians 7.18 "Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters."
isn't circumcision a commandment of god?
again in chapter 7...
"It is good for a man not to touch a woman."
and yet god commanded man first thing to be fruitful and multiply and to fill all the earth. was god wrong?
and that was just in two chapters.
i have to go... i will discuss more later...

Re: Equality...
actually. the old testament considered eunuchs as shamed. paul was the first to say they were good.

the problem i have with the bible's "plan" for marriage is that it originates as the curse on eve for her part in the fall. i think we have moved past that.
