Re: Banks of the Flood --Evidence?
Hi sl33w,
There is so much in your post that is wrong that it is hard to know where to start, but I shall restrict myself to wrong statement #4 in your list.
4) Not until the German Atheists published their THEORY of Evolution in the 1800s, did anyone doubt this basic fact. {the flood}
That's just wrong. Tom Paine expressed his doubt of pretty much the entire Biblical text in his work The Age of Reason, just before the nineteenth century turned.
Buffon was very specific about the flood being mythic and he was dead well before the 1800's. I'm sure you'll find plenty of doubters throughout the eighteenth century and that's just in the Christian world.
Previous to the eighteenth century, I'm not sure there is much in the way of written material expressing specific doubts about the flood, but that doesn't mean that there weren't doubters. Given that previous to this, the penalties for heresy ranged from social ostracism to torture and execution, it seems reasonable to assume that many who doubted the Bible had the sense not to mention it.
As for the bit about German atheists, I'm not even gonna start...
