I often see references to "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and to "Alice in Wonderland", because of the great truths they contain.
Sorry, but you seem to be mixing up the premise of the OP. (Or maybe I am)
I read it as: Can the Bible be literally true and also symbolic?
Your analogy here is therefore false, since both books, while entertaining, as not held up as literally true. Whatever "truths" they contain as symbolic truths.
Unless, of course, you are arguing that there was an Alice and that she did in fact go down the rabbit hole, etc.
