Re: Contradiction 3: Qualifications for Priesthood
quote:
This verse, and the verses surrounding it, is speaking of who is to guard the Ark of the Covenant, not a general qualification for priesthood.
Did the Israelites have any other priesthood?

Re: Contradiction 3: Qualifications for Priesthood
You seem to be pulling something out of that verse that isn't necessarily there. Are you inferring that since Levites were made priests to guard the ark because moses only wanted priests guarding it, that this must be the case for the rest of Isreal priesthood?

Re: Contradiction 3: Qualifications for Priesthood
I was just pointing out that that particular verse does not state what you claim it does.
While a good majority of Israel's high priests are of Aaronic descent, not all are. Menalaus being one of them that is not.

Now you're saying that there was no other priesthood. Ok.

No. What I said was:
hooah212002 writes:

That verse alone does not say anything more than at that particular time, in the wilderness of sinai, that tribe of Levi are to report to Aaron to watch over the ark.
Don't try and put words in my mouth.

Re: Contradiction 3: Qualifications for Priesthood
Now you are cherrypicking MY comments even though that particular comment you refer to is irrelevant to the OP, and you are taking out of context of what I said.
At any rate, no, I can't say that I "agree that there was no other priesthood, tho'" as I am not a biblical scholar and have not done a thorough research on the history of Israel's priesthood to make such a claim.

Not Catholic
Hi Ochaye,
The following is simply factually wrong.
quote:
2 Nephi 25:23 shows Mormonism to be Roman Catholicism with a new face, an attempt by Catholics to assault Protestantism in a manner better suited to the modern age, and to American culture, than its own fundamentally medieval nature could adopt.
Wrong. The Mormon church was founded, as we all know, by Joseph Smith. He was never a Catholic. His parents, Joseph Sr. and Lucy Smith, were not Catholics.
I have no idea why you would want to make such a bizarre statement, but I have to say that it smacks of knee-jerk anti-Catholic sentiment. If you want to take a pop at the Catholic Church, you'll get little argument from me, but it would be better if you stuck to the facts.

The non-Contradiction 1: Start of Church
kbertsche writes:
According to the Bible, the Christian Church began at the Feast of Pentecost, 50 days after Christs' crucifixion, as detailed in Acts 2. Note that in Mt 16:18, Jesus said that His Church was still future
What happened with Alma in the Book of Mormon is no different than what John the Baptist did. Alma was clearly establishing the Church of God/Christ in preparation for the coming messiah.
quote:
Mosiah 18
15 And again, Alma took another, and went forth a second time into the water, and baptized him according to the first, only he did not bury himself again in the water.
16 And after this manner he did baptize every one that went forth to the place of Mormon; and they were in number about two hundred and four souls; yea, and they were baptized in the waters of Mormon, and were filled with the grace of God.
17 And they were called the church of God, or the church of Christ, from that time forward. And it came to pass that whosoever was baptized by the power and authority of God was added to his church.

Did Americans talk like this in the 19th century?

The non-Contradiction 2: Birthplace of Jesus
kbertsche writes:
According to the Bible, Jesus was born in Bethlehem
Which was within the Land of Jerusalem
quote:
Ancient Near Eastern Texts Relating to the Old Testament, 3d ed. 489
El Amarna letter #287 reports:
a town of the land of Jerusalem, Bit-Lahmi [Bethlehem] by name, a town belonging to the king, has gone over to the side of the people of Keilah.

The non-Contradiction 4: Length of Darkness
kbertsche writes:
The Bible says that there was darkness for three hours at the time of Jesus' crucifixion:
But the Book of Mormon says that this darkness extended for three days:
You do realize Helaman and Nephi are referring to their own land, and not the middle east... right?
