So you're against the death penalty? I thought you were arguing FOR an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and a life for a life, as if it was some kind of "perfect" justice.
Oh I mind a great deal.

So you have nothing against murder? It's only temporal so it doesn't matter?
It is the Lord who ultimately gives life and takes it away .... in the final judgment [Revelation 20:11-15] What humans do is another matter and only temporal

It bothers you "a great deal" but not enough to actually DO anything about it? You might be wrong but you'll go ahead anyway? Yes I'm for the death penalty but it bothers me a great deal if innocent people are convicted. It doesn't matter how much things "bother" you. What matters is what you DO to avoid mistakes and correct your mistakes. The road to Hell is paved with your empty good intentions.

For those who don't want to look it up, I'll quote it for you:
Remember this ringo [Revelation 20:11-15]quote:Note that "they were judged every man according to their works". As Jesus said:
quote:It's all about what you do, not what you profess. So are you in favour of just letting murder slide? You handwave the death penalty as "temporal". Why is murder less temporal?

Yes there is. You can lobby against the problem instead of for it. You can be part of the solution instead of the problem.
There's nothing I can do about wrong executions. Faith writes:
Of course they do. If there's a chance of making a mistake you don't do what you can't undo. You don't burn your bridges if you might have to go back.
Mistakes don't invalidate the principle of the death penalty.

Jesus was the revisionist:
Oh how you revisionists love criminals.quote:No doubt there are people on death row praying for you.

The least you could do to follow Jesus' teaching is stop contradicting Him. What you probably SHOULD do, if you were an honest Christian, is speak out as He did:
I guess I could devote the rest of my life to helping those who are working to set wrongly convicted people free.quote:What you SHOULD do is stop mangling the Bible. Faith writes:
You made that point just fine but it's patently wrong, both logically and Biblically.
However, the point I was making is that the death penalty is the right sentence for some crimes, and that doesn't change because of judicial mistakes in determining who deserves it.

Nonsense. An eye for an eye was an integral part of the Hebrew justice system. It had nothing to do with individual behaviour.
He doesn't address anything that has to do with the criminal justice system....

WHAT? Your suggesting that we should just ignore the context and accept your (per)version?
It's clear He's addressing individuals no matter what the context anyway. Faith writes:
I didn't say He was preaching to nations. But as an individual who DOES have some influence over your nation's decisions, you are obligated to extend that teaching to your nation.
Jesus had no reason to preach to nations and states.... Faith writes:
I'm quoting what Jesus said. You can call that nonsense if you like.
Applying His teaching to the criminal justice system is so beyond absurd you have to just not be thinking.

Casey Davis (no relation) has sworn he will die before issuing a license to a gay couple. IIRC he's walking across the state ti Kim Davis' office to show support for her.
That's ironic. "I'm willing to die for my beliefs so I'm going for a walk." Who knew walking in Kentucky was so dangerous?

If your job requires you to break God's law, you quit your job. You don't just refuse to do your job.
My point is very simple: if ANY human law, doesn't matter what its source, contradicts God, a Christian must disobey that law.

On the CBC news last night somebody commented that quitting the $100,000 job might have been a more sincere protest.
I wonder why.

To put that in context, it's about the faith of the Hebrews - crossing the Red Sea, conquering Jericho, etc. - not Christians.
Hebrews 11:35: Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

I didn't say a word about theology. I was just pointing out the context of your quote for people who don't want to look it up for themselves.
You're as bad as jar when it comes to making up your own theology. Faith writes:
THAT is what YOU are making up. Why was the faith of those Hebrews included in the New Testament? Because they ARE "Christians," that is, we include them as believers in the same God, even in the sense that they looked forward to the true Messiah despite their disadvantage of time. What Jesus SAID was that the ancient Hebrews had faith in God and their contemporaries should too - because God was, and is, faithful. He said nothing about Christian martyrs.

What you already said does nothing to address the point. Your theology is made up. It isn't Biblical.
What I already said. You don't know what you are talking about.
