But I do think irresponsible liberals like Al Gore, who raised a lot of money from his "earth in the balance" book sales, should be required to donate a percentage of his profits to mental health research, since his prediction of polar ice caps being completely melted by 2013 was much worse than an accident, it was a blatent lie ... If you wish to lie about this subject, there is a thread on which it would be on-topic for you to do so. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

In other words although he may be a "collector" according to Percy's definition which is supposedly a safe category, he would expect to have to relinquish his guns. Where is he getting that idea if not from the liberal rhetoric ... From the conservative rhetoric?

So, in Georgia a man shot a woman in the back because he felt she was driving too slowly.
The police response is a bit bizarre. In today’s time, I’d encourage anyone to avoid confrontation with motorists out on the roadway, said Major Stephen Fore, of DeKalb County police. You just don’t know what’s in that other person’s mind.

Sure, but in this case "messing with him" amounted to not driving as fast as he wanted, so the cop's advice boils down to "if some jerk is tailgating you, you should speed up or he might shoot you." Which, if followed, would probably cost more lives than it would save.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove Dr. A. As anyone who knows anything knows, within the last 3 years, 3 people have died and literally hundreds injured in the USA as a result of malicious use of the APC: I'm not sure of your point, but that's pretty much why we don't let children play with pressure cookers.

Of course it is entirely possible that the sheriff did offer some really bad advice. But his advice would be so astoundingly bad in this case, that I thought we might consider other possibilities. Fair point.

I imagine we're going to talk quite a bit about the winner and his responsible attempt to bring conservative values back to America, but surely this guy deserves an honorable mention.
An enraged Waffle House customer shot and killed a waitress early Friday who asked him not to smoke. Police said Johnny Mount was eating about 1 a.m. at the restaurant in Biloxi, Mississippi, when he lit a cigarette, reported WLOX-TV. A waitress asked the 45-year-old Mount to put out the cigarette or smoke outside, and he began arguing with her. Police said Mount then pulled out a 9 mm handgun he had concealed under his shirt and shot the 52-year-old waitress in the head. "An armed society is a polite society."

Here.
While inside the car, Aragon Salas removed the handgun’s magazine and pointed the gun down at Martinez’s legs, with a round still in the chamber, according to police. Police say when Aragon Salas pulled the trigger, the gun fired and the bullet traveled through both of Martinez’s legs. Shortly after the incident, Martinez arrived at Mercy Iowa City with gunshot wounds in both legs. When asked by police, Martinez said he was walking through a southside Iowa City apartment complex when he was randomly shot multiple times by black males he didn’t recognize, according to police. Police say Martinez’s false report forced police to call in several off-duty officers in an effort to locate a shooter believed to be at large in the community. So, that went well.

During an interview at police headquarters, Braxton explained that the victim did not believe in God so she shot her in the eye, the police report said. She then kept the victim’s body on her couch for three days, calling it a shrine from God. That's nice. For a supposedly Christian nation, we're not keeping enough atheist corpse-shrines on our sofas.

As for the numbers, self-defense by gun is 80 times higher than that of homicide, suicide, and accidental shooting combined. Don't hear about that in the media though, because it's not sensational enough. Or because (a) it's complete bollocks (b) if it was true it would be dividing apples by oranges. Annually there are about 68,000 instances of people trying to defend their persons or property with guns. (I say "trying" because the statistics I have don't say how often this is successful. We may suppose however that it works quite often.) You can see immediately that this makes nonsense of "80 times higher". That would be two or three times higher. But is that even the right thing to be dividing by? How about instead we look at how often guns are used to commit crimes rather than prevent them? Turns out guns are used to commit crimes 467,000 times per year. (Note that this statistic is based on victims who actually saw a gun; it does not and indeed cannot include (for example) burglaries carried out by armed burglars, where the householder saw neither the burglar nor the gun.) Some references: http://www.vpc.org/studies/justifiable.pdfArchived | Gun Violence in America | National Institute of Justice Also, IIRC, you're four times more likely to have your gun stolen from you than you are to use it in self-defense.

Police in central Florida say a mother mistook her daughter for an intruder and shot her to death. St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday the mother was asleep when she heard someone enter her home late Tuesday. The mother told police she heard footsteps approaching quickly so she fired a single shot. She then discovered the person was her 27-year-old daughter. The daughter was taken to a hospital where she died. If you were waiting for a joke, I got nothing.
