And they were bright enough to see the clue that the story is not to be taken literally. You, unfortunately, are not.
Thousands of years ago people knew JUST AS WELL that animals are not suppose to talk. jaywill writes:
And He can do it through more sophisticated means than talking animals. God has a way of communicating a profound truth to the largest number of people in all generations. And our geese will blot out the sun.

I don't believe Long John Silver exists either. But if jaywill insisted that Long John Silver flew a balloon to Kansas in Treasure Island, I could point out that he was wrong.
At last, you are arguing that God is hypothetical and is brighter than many believers give Him credit for...but wait...if I recall correctly, you don't believe He exists. Phat writes:
I was saying that the Hebrews thousands of years ago were sophisticated enough to understand that a talking snake was a literary device. What makes YOU so sophisticated? And our geese will blot out the sun.

What makes you think they didn't have evidence-based thinking? ... I doubt they had visions of an internet, science, and evidence-based thinking...And our geese will blot out the sun.

I, for one, don't consider myself to be an expert on the Bible. I was almost literally born in church and I could literally quote Bible verses long before I could read. I have read the Bible far more since I stopped believing it. It's worth more as literature that as a guide to life or reality. The Bible has a funny effect on some people. The less they read it the more they fancy themselves to be experts on it. I do know my way around the Bible a bit and the Internet makes it easy to search. I could name several people here who are far more expert than I am. Some are Christians, some are not.And our geese will blot out the sun.

Your own perception (or intuition) of reality can certainly be deceptive. That's why human thought needs to be collaborative. Is there any chance that reality itself could be deceptive? And our geese will blot out the sun.

You have one community with one message but across the street there's another community with a different message. How can you evaluate the different messages?
If I walk into a community of believers, and they all confirm the same message, must it be wrong without concrete evidence? Phat writes:
If they were rationally-minded people, why would they reject concrete evidence? ... if they are otherwise rationally minded people....And our geese will blot out the sun.

But the Messenger is the same. It's only the interpretation of the message that differs. I evaluate the messengers and not simply the messages. That's why it's so foolish to put your faith in the messenger. You're really just listening to what you want to hear. You're accepting the interpretation that you're comfortable with. What you should be doing is comparing the message with reality and then evaluating the interpretations based on how well they correspond to reality. And our geese will blot out the sun.

When you're being mocked for saying foolish things, saying more foolish things may not be the best strategy. I brought it up, rightly or wrongly, because I was MOCKED.And our geese will blot out the sun.

You have that backwards. If one believes that humans are basically bad and/or hopeless without God, one would then look for bad behavior or conspiracy among humans which would need fighting against. One would always be on guard against an enemy in some form or another. If one believes that humans are basically good by nature and did not require a God to guide them, one would trust most media in the free world at least and one would have no reason to doubt moon landings, global warming, or humanist motives. Sometimes it's hard to tell the con-men from the rubes. The con-man's greatest asset is the rube who truly believes. ...but I find no evidence that jaywill or any of us palm any pea nor con any rube. And our geese will blot out the sun.

You should try reading my post before replying to it. I didn't say anything about recorded sounds or the ISS. And your specific solution for the problem of the recorded sounds which are NOT typically present on the ISS is ___________________________ ? What I said was, "Sometimes it's hard to tell the con-men from the rubes. The con-man's greatest asset is the rube who truly believes." I was referring to your stance on the "end times". You can be either the con-man or the rube. And our geese will blot out the sun.

As I said, sometimes it's hard to tell the con-men from the rubes. Maybe you're trying to con yourself into believing in the easy-way-out Christianity that you preach. What is it that you think you have that I would possibly want to "con" you out of?And our geese will blot out the sun.

The Bible is pretty ambiguous about whether the sins of the father should be passed on to the children. Exodus 34:7 says yes, Deuteronomy 24:16 says no, etc. This states the Fall:Romans 5:12 as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men... When you have a set of ambiguous statements, you can't just pick one and say it's unambiguous. That's cherry-picking. Romans 5:12 is quite unambiguous in the case of AdamAnd our geese will blot out the sun.
