ie
And why is Rrhain apparently still using IE?
i use ie. i know it's got its issues, and i'm aware of most of them. but i have two really good reasons.
1. integration. it runs like part of my operating system, because it is. my skin (boring though it may be) crosses over just fine, and everything looks nice. what's more is that it seems to run faster for me. my computer is an old p-o-s, and the lighter a program is, the better it runs. (this is also the reason i'm still running winamp 2) mozilla browsers (even firefox) seem a little heavy and sluggish on my machine, no matter what the official tests say.
2. it works right. i sort of approach it from a web-designer attitude. when i make up some html of css, it always comes out exactly how i want it to work in ie. but i have to fight it in netscape/mozilla/firefox, and opera. granted, they've gotten better (netscape's gotten ALOT better. it used to do some real wacky shit on me). i get the occasional ie crash, sure. but netscape has been known to lock up my system, and i broke firefox within the first 15 minutes. opera i just never liked.
firefox does have a lot features that are VERY useful. some of which have been added to the new ie that i don't have. tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, etc. i especially like the open-ended part of it. people can design their own plugins. as a platform, it was pretty close to what i like. so i'm gonna give it another go in a while. see if i can make it work in a way i like.

Re: ie
then this is a good indication that the designer has not followed these standards.
maybe i don't follow standards then lol.
i'm also way behind the times.

bump
so i'm reconsidering firefox.
dowloaded the newest version (1.0.4) tonight, and i've been messing with it for a while. generally it has a lot of stuff i like alot more than ie. but it was some things that annoy me, too.
like, for instance, how i've irreperably crashed it three times tonight alone. something about the extension handling and userchrome.css or usercontent.css is still kind of buggy. because i'll mess with an extension, and it'll crash on restart. restarting the computer and reinstalling do nothing. but removing usercontent.css and userchrome.css from the chrome folder that's under application data fixes it. and then i have to reinstall all my extension again, and sometimes my skin (all one of them). which is rather annoying.
don't like the handling of downloads and running files (like movies) off the web. do like tabs, alot. don't like some of the anal security measures, but i suspect they'll go away as it learns stuff. do like ad-removal. i do like search bar, with google, wikipedia, webster, ebay, and imdb. that's handy as hell. not sure if i like the find function yet. do like the luna skin, so it matches the rest of my computer. i also don't like how it handles like netscape. (might have to tweak some of my pages...)
i also broke thunderbird in a rather nasty way. had a buggy skin, which didn't let me change off it. uninstalling it was a bad choice, and made it so the program looked like a notepad file. and so that you couldn't do anything. managed to fix it, i think, by removing the folder in application data, and reinstalling. i don't like the lack of a good os-integration skin for thunderbird.
so, uh, not sure if i'm quite ready to trust stuff to programs that broke right out of the firgurative box. but other than that, i like them...
