Franken
This was a running joke of Franken's while he was still on Air America:

Congress goes into session officially on January 3. Thus, time for a quickie impeachment. The House can write up the charges, the trial can happen in the Senate, and just in time for the inauguration, Bush and Cheney can be kicked out of office, preventing them the satisfaction of making it to the ends of their terms. We get a new President on the 20th, and life can move on.

We have enough clowns in congress; we don't need another one.

Coyote responds to me:

And yet, it seems that O'Reilly is going to be having a string of heart attacks soon as he is going to have to refer to "Senator Al Franken."

That said, what is the "clowning" of impeaching the traitors known as George W. Bush and Dick Cheney? What is "clowning" about holding them accountable for their actions? What is "clowning" about actually doing what the Constitution demands of Congress when it finds that the President has overstepped his authority?

Unusual? Yes. But Pelosi and Reid don't have the courage of a doormouse to do what needs to be done. If it means getting a new Congress to do in two weeks what Pelosi and Reid couldn't do in two years, then so be it.

Do you think Reagan would have done what he did with Iran and the Contras if Ford hadn't pardoned Nixon but instead let the prosecution continue? Do you think Bush would have done what he did in invading Iraq if Congress had found the courage to impeach Reagan like it should have? When the lesson you teach people over and over again is that there are no consequences, then how can you possibly demand people behave responsibly?

Congressional approval is in the single digits. The reason why is because people are angry over Congress's refusal to hold the President, or anybody else for that matter, to account. Pelosi and Reid are in their positions because the people wanted them to start getting our troops out of Iraq, stop letting the President spy on Americans, investigate the politicization of the Justice Department, find out who leaked a CIA operative whose job was the investigation of nuclear proliferation in Iran, close Guantanamo and the torture that was sanctioned there, etc.

All of that leads back to the President and Congress taking him to task for his actions. To channel Adams from 1776, "What in hell are they waiting for?"

Thank you for the long list of left wing talking points.

Do you have anything constructive to pass on to us, or is that all you've got?

You say that as if I should be ashamed. I notice you didn't actually respond to any of the points I made...you just ran for the ad hominem. To use your own words:

Do you have anything constructive to pass on to us or is that all you've got?

I don't visit this site for left wing talking points. I can get those almost everywhere else.

And it seems a bit intrusive for you to just dump them on us as if nobody should have a contrary opinion. But the left has been doing that since the '60s. Its getting so they think their opinions are all there are, and some of them are even trying to get any contrary opinions declared as hate speech. That wears thin after a while.

Stick to evolution and I'll do the same, eh?

At least he gave us his opinion. All you've done so far was complain.
I gather it's hard to be a right winger those days.

Coyote responds to me:

quote:
I don't visit this site for left wing talking points.

(*chuckle*)

...said the person who waded through three pages of political commentary. Really, if you didn't want to hear discussion of politics, why did you enter a thread in the Coffee House with a title of "Senator Al Franken?" Surely you knew what you were getting into. Nobody is forcing you to read this thread, are they?

quote:
And it seems a bit intrusive for you to just dump them on us as if nobody should have a contrary opinion.

(*chuckle*)

...said the person who didn't provide a contrary opinion. This thread is not just to report the numbers of the Minnesota Senate race. It started back in 2005, when there were the first inklings of Franken running for Senate. So again I have to wonder, if you didn't want to hear it, why did you wander through three pages of discussion about a liberal running for Senate?

quote:
But the left has been doing that since the '60s.

(*chuckle*)

...said the person whose post consisted of complaining about someone having a contrary opinion. If you didn't want to hear it, why did you go through all these posts? Why did you even respond? Nobody is forcing you to do so, are they?

By your logic, you want the Fairness Doctrine re-installed, yes? It is designed to allow those with unpopular opinions to have access to the public airwaves. With you clamoring for said "contrary opinions" to get respect (and isn't that supposed to be earned), then surely you would like to have it back, yes?

Hint: There are no liberals in the federal government who are trying to reinstate it. So if the liberals don't want its return, how will that affect your response, if any?

quote:
Its getting so they think their opinions are all there are, and some of them are even trying to get any contrary opinions declared as hate speech.

(*chuckle*)

...said the person who whined about not having anything "constructive" to say.

Please give us examples of this "contrary opinions declared as 'hate speech.'" Oh, I have a fairly good idea of what it is you're talking about, but I'm not going to play psychic so that you can claim you didn't mean that. You start.

Names, dates, places, full quotes in complete context, please.

Otherwise, you're just talking out of your ass. Of course, you didn't come here to hear "left wing talking points," so you're going to be in a bit of a pickle: If you respond, you know you're going to get the very thing you claim you don't want.

This means if you don't respond, you can go about your life without having to see that which you don't wish to see. Is somebody forcing you to read this thread that you claim you do not wish to read? Surely this isn't the best place for you to find out the status of the Minnesota election, is it? Even if you think it is, Minnemooseus and I have been pretty good about putting the numbers posts in chart format. All you have to do is a quick scroll looking for the table and you can get the numbers. No need to even read any of the posts that have those horrible "left wing talking points" you seem to be so allergic to.

quote:
Stick to evolution and I'll do the same, eh?

No. I've got a better idea: You stick to reading threads you want to read and I'll stick to reading threads I want to read, eh?

Is somebody forcing you to read threads you don't want to?

Stick to evolution and I'll do the same, eh?

What does Al Franken have to with evolution?

Even though I do agree with your stance on left-wingers thinking their shit doesn't stink.

In fact I'll go one further and say that there is no such thing as a representation of left-wing and right-wing politics in our political system. There are just a bunch of wanna be politicians who like to create the illusion of a divide. The only ones who are divided are the citizens, as they should be, the easier it is to control them and their opinions...

Right Rrhain...?

As to this statment though...

Coyote writes:

Could you give an example, not from some crazy left wing source but from some reputable source?

I've found, like you may have, anyone who is too far left or too far right is usually full of shit.

Franken Wins?
Hi Folks,

I just saw a report on Pharyngula that the recount ended with Franken ahead by 225 votes. Also there is an article in the NY times.

TTFN,

WK

Yes, the recount is over. Now the Coleman lawsuit begins.

This is the same Coleman who, back when their situations were reversed, was admonishing Franken to simply concede defeat.

Finally, A winner declared
And, it is Now Senator Al Franken

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/14/us/politics/14franken.html?ref=us

ST. PAUL (AP) — A special Minnesota panel of three judges from three separate courts has ruled that Al Franken, a Democrat, won the most votes in his 2008 Senate race against an incumbent Republican, Norm Coleman.

The ruling on Monday is not expected to be the final word in the case because Mr. Coleman previously announced plans to appeal to the State Supreme Court. He has 10 days to do so.

That appeal could mean a delay of several more weeks in seating Minnesota’s second senator.

After a statewide recount and a seven-week trial, Mr. Franken is 312 votes ahead. He gained more votes from the election challenge than Mr. Coleman, the candidate who filed it.

The state law Mr. Coleman sued under merely required three judges to determine who got the most votes and is therefore entitled to an election certificate. That certificate is being held up pending appeal.

The Wikipedia article of the affair so far
Wikipedia has a pretty detailed article on the affair so far.

It is currently being heard by the Minnesota supreme court. After that an appeal to the US supreme court is a possibility, although I would hope they would refuse to take on the case.
