Lets not forget all these comments made by, what some would consider, fine upstanding Americans.
quote:
George W. Bush (President of the United States)
"I don't think that witchcraft is a religion. I wish the military would rethink this decision."*
"God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."
"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."
"This crusade, this war on terrorism is going to take a while."
*Comment about Wiccans in the military
Of course look at his ignorant daddy who doesn't realize that "One nation under god", and "In god we trust" was not added til 1954, 1956; Eisenhower was scared of godless commies so had them added to money and the pledge, til then we were never one nation under god.
quote:
George Bush Sr. (President of the United States)
"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."
Just a few more from random people...
quote:
Ann Coulter
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."
"Not all Muslims may be terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims."
"Being nice to people is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity, as opposed to other religions whose tenets are more along the lines of 'kill everyone who doesn't smell bad and doesn't answer to the name Mohammed'"
-------
J. B. Stoner (White Supremacist) (1924 - 2005)
"We had lost the fight for the preservation of the white race until God himself intervened in earthly affairs with AIDS to rescue and preserve the white race that he had created.... I praise God all the time for AIDS."
"AIDS is a racial disease of Jews and Niggers, and fortunately it is wiping out the queers. I guess God hates queers for several reasons. There is one big reason to be against queers and that is because every time some white boy is seduced by a queer into becoming a queer, means his white bloodline has run out."
---------
Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin
George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States, he was appointed by God.
--------
Pat Buchanan (Presidential Candidate)
"Our culture is superior. Our culture is superior because our religion is Christianity and that is the truth that makes men free."
"There were no politics to polarize us then, to magnify every slight. The "negroes" of Washington had their public schools, restaurants, bars, movie houses, playgrounds and churches; and we had ours."
"Rail as they will about 'discrimination,' women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism."
--------
Randall Terry (Operation Rescue)
"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."
"Our goal must be simple. We must have a Christian nation built on God's law, on the ten Commandments. No apologies."
"I don't think Christians should use birth control. You consummate your marriage as often as you like — and if you have babies, you have babies."
"When I, or people like me, are running the country, you'd better flee, because we will find you, we will try you, and we'll execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it part of my mission to see to it that they are tried and executed."
"There is going to be war, [and Christians may be called to] take up the sword to overthrow the tyrannical regime that oppresses them."
--------
Rush Limbaugh
"Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."
"If you commit a crime, you're guilty."
"There is only one way to get rid of nuclear weapons... use them"
source
Some of these views seem just as extreme and intolerant as the Taliban.
After 9/11 I heard a few people suggest we retaliate by all kinds of ways from nukes, to crashing planes into some of their buildings, the volunteer list probably wouldn't be long, but I am sure we could find more then a few Christian soldiers who would've been willing.
Morals are somewhat subjective anyway, our Idea of what is acceptable and theirs differs for most of us, not all though, plenty of radical Christians who would like nothing more then to exterminate certain groups, gays...Muslims, atheist...ect.
I guess the taliban acts on it's beliefs more the the radical Christians do, they tend to climb up on the soapbox and shout, the taliban actually goes out and does these terrible things.

Re: Soft Targets vs Terrorism
They were resisting to the last man on each and every island we had to take.
Does resisting include women and children throwing their babies and themselves off cliffs?
Some of these people thought we were pure evil because of propaganda, they were not resisting, they choose to die because they thought it was better than what we would do to them.
The Japanese soldiers were somewhat brain washed with a BS version of the warriors code, Bushido. We had no choice but to kill them.
I do think the Bombs have served many purposes through the years. I hate nukes but do think that they probably did save countless lives on both sides regardless of the reasons they were really dropped. JMO

Re: Goal: Eliminate Fundamentalist Thinking
Hi Phat,
Seems to me we, or some of us can be pretty intolerant too. Including a presidential candidate.
quote:
Cain: Opposing mosque construction is not discrimination
By: CNN Associate Producer Gabriella Schwarz
(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Sunday that communities should be able to prevent the construction of mosques in their neighborhoods.
Cain said he sided with some residents of a Tennessee town who tried to prevent Muslims from worshiping nearby.
The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, outside Nashville, has been the subject of protests and counter protests earlier. A judge ruled in May that its planned construction did not harm the residents who sued to prevent it, but also allowed claims that the county violated an open meetings law in approving it to move forward. Construction of the new center has yet to start as the case continues.
"Our Constitution guarantees separation of church and state. Islam combines church and state," Cain said on "Fox News Sunday." "They are using the church part of our First Amendment to infuse their mosque in that community and the people in the community do not like it, they disagree with it."
The former Godfather's Pizza CEO, who previously indicated Muslims would need to prove their loyalty to the U.S. Constitution before he would appoint them to his administration, said that ultimately, people know what is best in their own communities.
"I'm simply saying I owe it to the American people to be cautious because terrorists are trying to kill us," Cain said. "So yes, I'm going to err on the side of caution, rather than the side of carelessness."
At the same time, Cain said he didn’t think there was any religious discrimination in Murfreesboro residents opposing the mosque or his support for their stand.
As someone who grew up in the '50s and '60s, Cain said, the mosque issue is "totally different" than the civil rights era because of the laws restricting blacks from advancing.
It seems some people here in the USA only want freedom of religion if it one they don't find offensive. With attitudes like that, from a man running for president no less, its no wonder why we are hated by many Muslims including non-extremist/fundamentalist ones.

Seems like a little confusion about church and state also, JMO.

Re: Goal: Eliminate Fundamentalist Thinking
Reasons to hate us from Herman Cain expanded.
quote:
Herman Cain: Muslims must show loyalty to work for me
By: CNN's Ashley Killough
(CNN) - GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain stood firm Friday on his promise to make Muslims prove loyalty to the U.S. Constitution before appointing them to his administration - a test, he has said, that would not apply to people of other faiths.
The former CEO of Godfather's Pizza denied that the proposed test is a form of discrimination when pressed Friday by CNN's John King.
"That's not discrimination. It's called trying to protect the American people," Cain said. "This nation is under attack constantly by people who want to kill all of us, so I'm going to take extra precaution."
In March, Cain made headlines when he told a Think Progress blogger that he would feel uncomfortable appointing a Muslim as a member of his cabinet or as a federal judge. And while speaking on Fox News on Wednesday, he said there was a "greater dangerous part of the Muslim faith" than other religions.
Cain told King on Friday that he would be comfortable with a Muslim serving in office only if he could gauge the person's sense of loyalty through a one-on-one conversation.
"I never said I would discriminate against Muslims or any other religion for that matter, but I am going to take extra precautions if a Muslim person who is competent wants to work in my administration," he said.
Cain has grown in popularity over recent months. The latest poll released by Quinnipiac University on June 8 puts him in third place in the 2012 GOP field, with 10%. He falls behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who placed first, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who came in second.
— On Monday, June 13, CNN will host the first New Hampshire Republican Presidential Debate, live from Manchester, NH at 8 p.m. ET. Follow all the issues and campaign news leading up to the debate on CNNPolitics.com and @cnnpolitics on Twitter.
Maybe he should question the loyalty of Catholics also, wouldn't want someone who may put the needs of the Vatican ahead of whats best for USA. Hell why we are at it might as well make everyone whom he has working for him sign an oath of loyalty that would insure the separation of their religious beliefs from their job.
