I don't think so, Apple's interfaces aren't a whole lot simpler than Microsoft's, they're just different and you get to learn the ones you use. Apple's recent success is in product design - they're just beautiful things that work beautifully together. This is because they're in control of the whole package - hardware and software - and can therefore command a premium for design and image, whereas Microsoft have to leave hardware to millions of kit makers that may or may not talk to each other. This is why an Android phone can be either totally crap or damn good depending on the hardware, whilst an iPhone is an iPhone is an iPhone.

I think you'll find the whole thing totally effortless if you spelled 'check' correctly as 'cheque'. Obviously the system is is reacting badly to American English. (A contradiction in terms if there ever was one.)

I signed up for the new government service this week - do these people not read the things they write?Your password must be between 9 and 16 characters long and contain a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and a special character (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*).For maximum security your Password should not:Have two repeating characters
Include the user name as part of the Password
Use dictionary/common words
Use words/common phrases with substituted numbers for characters e.g. he110 for hello. But above all make it easy to remember and keep it in a safe place. It must be changed every 90 days.

So how do you remember the strategy? It seems that every site that wants a password thinks that you only have one - I have literally hundreds.Whilst we're waiting for a solution, I think a long site specific phrase is best.DarwinGive$G0DaH3adAcheMacs have the keychain which means you can find any password you've used which is pretty useful. If you encrypt the drive, put a 15 minute timeout on it for no use, and have a long phrase to get into it and you're pretty safe and only marginally inconvenienced.

The trouble is most of us have more than one device - personally I have four for different uses so the individual machine thing isn't a proper solution.I don't trust the cloud for password storage either - how could anyone? So that doesn't work either.There's just no answer yet - iris scans and figure prints seem like a possibility, but I'm buggered if I'm going to give every site I sign up for my fingure print so some sort of secure escrow type intermediary may be the way to go.
