Okay Paul, I'll concede the point. At least Noah waited to hit the beach before he got sloshed. Although, waiting for the vines to grow took a heck of a lot of discipline.

Would "all the things that crawl upon the earth" include every critter that spends any part of it's time above high tide but most of it's life in the water? Where do you draw the line between land crabs, intertidal crabs and deep sea crabs? None of which interbreed (to put it "kindly"). we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand Rebel American Zen Deist

Yeah, it does sort of beg the question on intertidal zone critters. Also, it's not immediately obvious where amphibians belong - land or water dwellers? Olive Ridleys only come ashore to nest, Ambystoma mexicalis never leaves the water, although it's limited to fresh water. Aquatic or land crawler? Tis' a puzzlement.

The Bible says that all with the breath of life in their nostrils died. Some YECs use this to excuse invertebrates that don't breathe through nostrils. However, it does mean that Amphibians should be on board as well as Pinnipeds(seals, sea lions, walrus) and manatee. Whether to count whales and dolphins, I don't know. I think pinnipeds and manatee are a pretty big problem though. How did they get to and from the ark? One might ask the same about penguins I suppose but they probably walk long distances better than elephant seals or manatee.

The question is not how they got to the ark -- the presumption (standard) is that the world was entirely different before the "flood" event.
The question is how they got where they are after the flood, and why ONLY there ... koalas? S.Am Sloths? etcetera. Penguins have no trouble with water routes - they "fly" underwater, hence there modified but highly developed wings.

I did say to and from. I have a thread on that below but the YEC haven't done much with it so far.

excellent post. I am saving it to link on another board when needed. talkorigins also has an article on this problem.
we had a fellow posit that koalas travelled in a grove of eucaliptus trees that formed a path to australia - a moving oasis - in a series of discussions that came to be known as "the magic koala" scenario. and yes I saw that you did have both, but "getting to" is unecessary concern, the "getting from" is the critical one. we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

I did a little investigating on Shearer and Assoc., the people that did the stability study for Mr. Silver's Ark specs. Please note that they steel design barges, not ocean-going craft. Also, Mr. Silver put in a transparent overhead and transverse bulkheads. He seems to have also included some modern stuff in a bronze age boat. Shearer did the calcs assuming the Ark was a box and no provisions were made for surviving heavy weather. No moon pool or great honking side hatch. Also, the size and numbers of the animals is not too clear. Silver supplied the figures.
Almost all builders, shipwrights and designers I've talked with all smile and shake their heads when I bring up the ark. Reunite Gondwana!
