Author | Topic: Genesis: is it to be taken literally? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Thats not true. If the "how" is proven to have never occured, neither did the "why". for example, lets say science conclusively proves the "great flood" never ocurred. "Why" becomes irrellevant.
If you ask me "HOW is the sky blue?"...and my response is; "because particulate matter in the upper atmosphere filters out all the color spectrum of light but blue". If you ask me "Why is the sky blue?"...my response would be..."Why isn't it blue on Mars?"

IMHO, the Great Flood and like so many other things, is NOT to be taken literally. I know it never happened. It is a morality play.

It is as I said, a morality play. There were those who did not believe in GOD. God punished them. It uses images that might be familar to many, the damage that could be done through floods.
The whole Flood, Noah story, like so many others, were simplistic plays that could be told, or acted out around a campfire. They had parts that children could play (remember it is the kids that need to be taught), good, evil, salvation and loss. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

This is true.. If we cant trust the Bible in the beginning ,why should we trust any of it?. I would never worship a book that can be reinterpreted according to mans theories or changed if it doesnt make sense. Or acceptable only with moral issues. I wonder if Jesus reserected? or if God exists?. If i cant trust my Bible in whatever it says then theres really no point. Lucky for us theres literal creationists showing us evidence that we can trust the Bible from the very first verse. Like i keep saying the age of the earth has not been proven. Evolutionists must have an old earth no matter what evidence is found or else evolution cannot have occured.

Look, I'm NOT another cheap, easy christian whore. I'm an Atheist. The Bible means about as much to me as "The cat in the hat" by Dr' Seuss.

Rocket, I think that was the verbal equivalent of biting a Creationist's balls off and squirting the blood/semen mix out your nose into his face. Who exactly are these 'cheap, easy Christian whores' anyway?

If you ask me "HOW is the sky blue?"...and my response is; "because particulate matter in the upper atmosphere filters out all the color spectrum of light but blue". Rocket, sorry to nitpick, but I need to correct this statement. The sky is blue because the gasses of the atmosphere resonate at a frequency close to that of blue light (If I remember correctly, its actually violet, but the human eyes don't process that wavelenght as well as blue.). Light from the sun is white light, with the full visable spectrum present. As the light passess throught, the light that is blue and violet is abosrbed by the atoms since it is close the the resonant energy levels of the molecules, and reemited at teh same frequency in different directions. This effect is called scattering. It is essentially why you can see a bright blue sky in all directions. The remaining visable light, consisting of red and green light (and other colors in that range , but essentially, we see those two color spectra combine to give the sun an appearnce of yellow after traveling through the atmosphere. Meanwhile, mars has virtually no atmosphere, so its sky, as viewed from the surface, would be nearly black. There may be some minor scattering, but it would most likely be minimal. I imagine that the atmosphere would probably give a weak violet scattering at best, since there is hardly any atmosphere for the light to travel through.

You must also ask yourselves this. Why arent all these other myths debating against evolution? Why is the debate Creation vs Evolution..Creation = Bible. The debate is between these 2 and these 2 only. If Genesis is just another myth why is it being supported by creationists & science?. Is it because this is the true account of what really happened? vs the account of what evolutionists think happened?.. Is this the battle that rages on? The truth is the Bible is unique in more ways than one. It shouldnt be dismissed as just another myth..In my opinion at least.

Don't worship a BOOK.
The Map is not the Territory. A Treasure Map is not the Treasure. Worship GOD. If every word of the Bible were shown to be nothing but Parables, that would still have no effect on whether or not there is a GOD or on GOD's nature. almeyda, please bear with me because I really think this is important. IMHO, there are a couple things you might want to consider. First, what is the point of religion? Second, is GOD simply something that can be bound in leather? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Why accuse her/him of worshipping a book? That's not what the person said.
Ofcourse God isn't limited. Anything is possible with him, yet you don't think he created the heaven and earth. You also think Allah is God. Don't worship Allah!

And while you're at it, don't name yourself after a Todd McFarlane comic.

Actually it is what he/she said.
I would never worship a book that can be reinterpreted according to mans theories or changed if it doesnt make sense. And yes, I believe that ALAH is GOD, the same God that Jews and Christians worship. By the way, so do the Muslims. And I doubt that you will find anywhere that I have said that I do not believe GOD created the heaven and the Earth. What I have said is the Genesis and most of the Bible should not be taken LITERALY. Aslan is not a Tame Lion
