Toe number of protocetids.
Whales as well as protocetids had 5 toes. Hippopotamus has only 4 toes like all other eventoed ungulates. That would be an argument for creationists.
The evolutionary explanation would be a mutation that reactivated formation of the fifth lost toe in the ancestor to whales and protocetids after they split from the hippopotamuses. Or is it the case that the fifth toe actually hasnt been completely lost?
