Re: Left v. Right B*ll Sh*t
It's okay to slam the country & its fighting men & women, use expletives like the "F" word & BS, refer to my b*lls (which I don't have, & I'd call that an ad hominem attack, BTW), but when I get fired up about this baloney being bandied about, you threaten me with being censored or banned? What exactly is so offensive about asking you why you don't know you're supposed to refrain from saying negatives about your country when its at war? That's just a little lesson in Citizenship 101. Obviously some of you guys didn't take this course. Have any of you stopped to think what the outcome would be in the unlikely event we were to loose this war? Would like to see the women in our nation wearing burkas? Sharia laws imposed on the entire population? Think man, think. Is this really what you people want?

You insulted me first. I apologize for that, I hope we can proceed in a more civil tone.
What exactly is so offensive about asking you why you don't know you're supposed to refrain from saying negatives about your country when its at war?
That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard!! You don't seriously belive that line of garbage? It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
It is our DEUTY to evaluate, analyze, critisize, our govt's actions.
Have any of you stopped to think what the outcome would be in the unlikely event we were to loose this war?
What war?
Would like to see the women in our nation wearing burkas?
LOL! We are not at risk of this.
Sharia laws imposed on the entire population?
HAHAHHAH! Please.
Think man, think. Is this really what you people want?
Well, that's not where it is headed. So calm down

This is going down the toilet bowl.
Yarro...what are your specific questions? I guess you missed my post earlier in all this verbal fencing.
It is our DEUTY to evaluate, analyze, critisize, our govt's actions.
Absolutely 100% correct. But there are good ways to do this, and bad ways to do this.
Breasts not Bombs is an example of a bad way to do this.
The problem, Yaro, is that this is who the left is defined as now. You may very well be a sensable person with legit questions, but people like this is who has taken over the democratic party. They have nothing but seething hatred for anything Bush and don't even want to rationally think the opositions thought process through.
They just want to "protest."

Re: Left v. Right B*ll Sh*t
What talking points? You have consistently made statements that basically boil down to:
The United States is always right.
Even if it were wrong, we should still support it.
Perhaps that isn't what you meant to say, but that is certainly what your posts sound like. Americans are not the smartest people in the world, they are not the most moral people in the world, nor are they the greatest people in the world. Americans are just like anyone else in the world, and are just as capable of acting in their self-interest as anyone else in the world, and are just as capable as anyone else of deluding themselves and confusing their own self-interests with the good for all humanity.
I'm sorry; beyond the fact that the United States is more capable of exercising raw power on a global scale than any other nation in history (not something to be proud of if it's only used for the benefit of its social elites), there is nothing special about the United States or Americans.

Here here. I agree Tal. I also see alot of loudmouth nutballs on the right who wan't to messure everyone up to Michael Moore and idiocy like "Breasts not Bombs".
I think you and Monk and even Faith have posted some very rational material. I wanted to discuss articles like those raised and really get down to the arguments from both sides.
I don't just mean the radical "bumper sticker" arguments, but those folks who have actually evaluated the evidence and formulated solid positions on both ends.
ABE: but ya, I think it is inevitable in these political threads that they will start swirling down the tube

It lives among us. It is supported by our Leftists both directly and indirectly as they attack everything the US does. It crosses our open borders every day. It is waiting for its opportunity. If we don't stand against Islam in whatever way we can, we will become subject to Islam.

Alright, now that we agree on that, give me some questions regarding the strategic or tactical situation in Iraq.
It doesn't have to flush down the toilet if me and you don't want it to.

I love these forums because it forces me to better articulate any position, whether it is on politics, faith, or science.

But in order to make the women of America wear burkas, you will need an occupying army. A terorist incident won't get it done. You will need a vast military machine. I don't see any around.

Re: Left v. Right B*ll Sh*t
Ever read what Al Qaeda's plan is?
The First Phase Known as "the awakening" -- this has already been carried out and was supposed to have lasted from 2000 to 2003, or more precisely from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York and Washington to the fall of Baghdad in 2003. The aim of the attacks of 9/11 was to provoke the US into declaring war on the Islamic world and thereby "awakening" Muslims. "The first phase was judged by the strategists and masterminds behind al-Qaida as very successful," writes Hussein. "The battle field was opened up and the Americans and their allies became a closer and easier target." The terrorist network is also reported as being satisfied that its message can now be heard "everywhere."
The Second Phase "Opening Eyes" is, according to Hussein's definition, the period we are now in and should last until 2006. Hussein says the terrorists hope to make the western conspiracy aware of the "Islamic community." Hussein believes this is a phase in which al-Qaida wants an organization to develop into a movement. The network is banking on recruiting young men during this period. Iraq should become the center for all global operations, with an "army" set up there and bases established in other Arabic states.
The Third Phase This is described as "Arising and Standing Up" and should last from 2007 to 2010. "There will be a focus on Syria," prophesies Hussein, based on what his sources told him. The fighting cadres are supposedly already prepared and some are in Iraq. Attacks on Turkey and -- even more explosive -- in Israel are predicted. Al-Qaida's masterminds hope that attacks on Israel will help the terrorist group become a recognized organization. The author also believes that countries neighboring Iraq, such as Jordan, are also in danger.
The Fourth Phase Between 2010 and 2013, Hussein writes that al-Qaida will aim to bring about the collapse of the hated Arabic governments. The estimate is that "the creeping loss of the regimes' power will lead to a steady growth in strength within al-Qaida." At the same time attacks will be carried out against oil suppliers and the US economy will be targeted using cyber terrorism.
The Fifth Phase This will be the point at which an Islamic state, or caliphate, can be declared. The plan is that by this time, between 2013 and 2016, Western influence in the Islamic world will be so reduced and Israel weakened so much, that resistance will not be feared. Al-Qaida hopes that by then the Islamic state will be able to bring about a new world order.
The Sixth Phase Hussein believes that from 2016 onwards there will a period of "total confrontation." As soon as the caliphate has been declared the "Islamic army" it will instigate the "fight between the believers and the non-believers" which has so often been predicted by Osama bin Laden.
The Seventh Phase This final stage is described as "definitive victory." Hussein writes that in the terrorists' eyes, because the rest of the world will be so beaten down by the "one-and-a-half billion Muslims," the caliphate will undoubtedly succeed. This phase should be completed by 2020, although the war shouldn't last longer than two years.

Re: Left v. Right B*ll Sh*t
What, precisely, is so dumb about supporting your country while it is at war? When our way of life is threatened, & it truly is, why would exercising your right to dissent & free speech to voice that dissent be the proper choice of a good citizen of any country? Your country is need of your support & your help, not your complaining & your criticism. When you do that, the ENEMY is encouraged. What don't you get about that? While you have every right in this nation to do it, I'm saying you should choose not to exercise that right at this time. If you cannot support the war effort, if you do not agree with the actions of the military & the President, fine, disagree, in private. But in public, we must, as Americans, stick together until the fighting has ceased & we have prevailed. When public statements contrary to the mission are made, the enemy is emboldened, the war is prolonged, more soldiers die on both sides. It's counter to our best interests. Surely you know all of this, don't you? This is basic stuff. Your rights to free speech & freedom of expression are not more important than the lives of our soldiers, are they? Every time liberals open their mouths & criticize their country, they encourage the enemy, which results in the deaths of more Americans. You are in effect killing your fellow Americans every time you publicly denigrate this country. You don't do that if you care about your country & you care about its troops. Now, I repeat the question I started this post with, what's so dumb about supporting your country while it's at war???????
