Re: To Salty

Besides salty's thinly veiled religious fundamentalism, I would focus more on Darwinsim and Darwinian which he uses frequently...to this day he has never explained what he means by either.
Actually, I think he did answer this one in Message 59 of the What is Salty's 'semi-meiotic hypothesis' thread, revealing that he knows the definition of neither evolution nor Darwinism.

Going from memory, this is from Scott Adam's book The Way of the Weasel:
If you spend all of your time arguing with people who are nuts, you'll be exhausted and the nuts will still be nuts.

Re: Trainor and 'bias'
You might want to reply to Terry's message about the NG retraction being hidden away. They wrote a lengthy article about the embarassing episode in a subsequent issue that was featured prominently.
Given the ease with which the religious are duped by crying statues and such, I don't think a very strong case can be made that scientists who are temporarily fooled by fabricated data are frauds. It's the same with other examples, like Piltdown. Whoever faked the jaw and tooth was committing fraud. Whoever was convinced by it is maybe guilty of being overly credulous, but you can't list fraud among his crimes.
I think we on the science side are also too quick to label people like Baugh and Hovind conscious frauds - I think they really believe what they preach.

Oh, the irony!
Is one permitted to make side comments on things in this thread, or only about other threads?
