If not but there is evidence for it then what is the evidence? We observe the results of it - life. And we know that there's no difference between the matter in living things and the matter in non-living things. Life is just a specific arrangement of matter. In a sense we're "observing" abiogenesis any time non-living matter is incorporated into a living thing. As for the current thought about the biochemical origins of life, why don't you search PubMed.org?

But just because inorganic matter is found in our bodies is that considered good evidence? I don't think that it's evidence of any kind. But I do think that it's just a realization, a way of thinking that makes the idea of abiogenesis all the easier to swallow. And remember, I wasn't talking about inorganic matter being found in our bodies. I was talking about our bodies turning inorganic matter into organic matter.

I would think if life arrose on it's own with no help then it should be very easy to duplicate. Diamonds also arise on their own. Do you think that they are easy to duplicate? Don't conflate "natural" with "simple", please. The universe is quite capable of great complexity on it's own.

What's the one difference here? We can make diamonds, although not easily, but we can't make a cell!!! With all our technology we can't make life. How long did it take us to learn to make diamonds? Give us time. We'll make the minimum organism. Just you wait. I'lllay dollars to doughnuts it happens within 20 years.
Oh yes; All cells come from preexisting cells. Except, obviously, the first one. No matter where that first cell came from, surely we can agree on that? Unless you think God is made of cells? [This message has been edited by crashfrog, 03-22-2004]

A note on why article titles are not sufficient to support one's position. I agree that titles or even abstracts alone aren't really sufficient to support an argument, but often times the problem is that copyright issues prevent the article from being posted. Most scientific papers of any relevance simply aren't avaliable publicly without an academic site license or a fee. Sometimes we post abstracts because that's all the we can. In such situation I think a precis of the article in question is appropriate.

If you had half a brain and were honest Naturally, one can't disagree with DNA unless they're an idiot and a liar. What I love most is how DNA's contributions consistently raise the bar of tact and maturity at the ol' EvC forum.

Odd, I didn't see a similar warning given to Mark24 for the following comments he made in another thread. Interesting... do you truly believe that "somebody else did it too!" constitutes a mitigating circumstance? Do you believe that's a mature response? Just curious.

you don't address any of the points I raise, you just hide in the shadows and sporadically snipe in a gorilla warfare-like manner. How can I address your points? They're generally buried in so much ad hominem and boorish behavior that it's impossible to recognize them. I suspect that's why you have such a problem getting your point across to so many posters here - you routinely sacrifice clarity for cheap shots at your opponent or transparent efforts at self-aggrandizement. Oh, and since you've used it twice, I assume you won't mind being corrected - it's "guerilla" warfare. Unless you're referring to my copious back hair?

You aren't interested in honest debate, but in trying to attack me... I imagine that, like me, she's more than interested in honest debate, and partakes of it with a number of posters - just not you. After all, what would be the point? Attempts to engage you in honest discussion universally result in gibes and insults in lieu of actual exploration of points. If it's honest debate you want, why don't you try debating honestly for once?

Oops, good point. Missed an "r". Somehow my dictionary didn't catch that one...

So noted. Not exactly my finest hour, I guess.
