Woohoo! I only recently discovered Ry Cooder's version of "He'll Have to Go." (That's the OLD Jim Reeves ballad, "put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone......") Ry, however, is helped out by Flaco Jimenez playing the sweetest Mexican accordian this side of Monterey. Lovely stuff.

some of the work he did with Ali Farka Toure is simply fantastic.
Yeah, some of the most interesting, complex music I've ever heard.

I even like some black gospel,
Jar might have heard the John R show on Sunday nights from some AM station in Nashville, ca. 1968. He had soul/R&B the rest of the week, but gospel groups like The Southern Hummingbird on Sunday. And he was a great DJ - "For all of you out deah in radioland slippin' it in and slippin' it out - get White Rose Petroleum Jelly!"
