*sob* I'm so sorry *sob*
I'm sorry that all of the territory of the United States were stolen from the indigenous peoples.
I'm sorry that the United States went to war with Mexico in order to grap a huge chunk of Mexican territory.
I'm sorry that Americans living in Hawaii overthrew the indigenous government and asked to be annexed by the US.
I'm sorry that the US went to war with Spain in order to grab what was left of its overseas territories.
I'm sorry that the Philipino resistance was crushed in a brutal occupation.
I'm sorry that the US imperial ambitions in East Asia provoked the Japanese to attack a military base in a far-off colony that few Americans had even heard of at that time.
I'm sorry that the US overthrew the popular Mossadegh government in Iran and replaced it with the brutal Shah.
As well as the democratically elected Arbenz government in Guatamala.
And the democratically elected Allende government in Chile.
I'm sorry that the US supported a terrorist group fighting against the democratically elected Sandanista government in Nicaragua.
I'm sorry that the US is increasingly hostile against the popular and democratically elected Chavez government in Venezuela.

Does this go for all grieving mothers who are politically active for some cause, or only those who are active against your causes?

Re: I'm sorry, too
Hi, berberry.
Maybe you should find a picture of a woman who has lost her son in Iraq but who has been politically active in supporting the war. You can photoshop her image too, maybe put her in a Nazi uniform and give her a Hitler mustache. You can then say that by supporting an unnecessary war in which her son was killed, she is pissing on her son's grave.
Yeah, I know it goes against your southern gentlemanly sense of chivalry, but Tal says that it's okay to do this sort of thing.

conservative solipsism
Hi, berberry.
Of course I wasn't serious. I made the suggestion to test Tal's reaction. I wonder whether he would be shocked by it; it wouldn't surprise me if he never considered the possibility that the other side could engage in the same tactics with the same legitimacy.
One thing that I have noticed is that conservatives seem unable to imagine themselves in the other person's position, or to imagine what other people may feel about what they say or do.

So are you saying that those who have lost the most have the least right to speak out against it? That doesn't seem right to me.

Do you see conservatives media whoring their political agenda's using the death of their loved ones?
You got me there; I only see you conservatives using the death of other people's loved ones:
I'm going to write this very clearly so you understand. I've lost friends in the GWOT. I've served on many funeral details and presented the Flag to grieving wives and mothers.
Those wives and mothers don't immediately go out and voice their political opinion and become media whores. They grieve and focus their efforts on honoring the sacrifice their son/husband made.
