Not long after I came over here, I worked in a small office where the manager would nip out pretty much every day to the local news agent's (something else foreign to me) and get snacks and drinks. He used to say to me,
"I'm goin' down the shop, you want ought?" (pronounced "oat")
It took me a while to actually work out what that meant.
I've also had to get used to being called a duck (pronounced "dook" to rhyme with "book").
