Pronunciation fun
As a Texan living in England, here's a few off the top of my head (some of these might only apply to my southern dialect):
  • Controversy - yanks emphasise the first and third syllables, Brits the second.
  • Leisure - yanks say "lee-sure", Brits "leh-sure".
  • Privacy - yanks: pry-vacy, Brits: prih-vacy.
  • Route - yanks: r-out, Brits: root (like the root of a plant)
  • Disorientated - not pronounced differently, but yanks just say "disoriented".
  • Schedule - yanks (southern anyway) say "Sked-yool", Brits (Leicester anyway) say "Shed-yool".

IS SO!

I'm hesitant to disagree, as I completely understand where you are coming from (and because I admire your intellectual prowess hehe), but...
