Re: Just a little theory
quote:
Now it is true that evolution tells us that we are no more significant than a snail.
It is? How in the world did evolution do all that? I mean, isn't it vitally important that you exist now because of evolution not only because of where you came from, but where you and your descendents are going. Doesn't that make your life more significant? Doesn't that place vital importance upon you being here now? You are the result of an extensive and ancient gene pool and it is important that you add your own to it.
quote:
What we do or don't do matters not in the least in the long run, in the objective run. It is of no more importance than any other natural event.
But, doesn't religion show us that our lives here lack little if any importance at all compared to the kingdom of heaven? I mean really, all that is expected of us is to accept Jesus Christ as our savior and behave ourselves according to a set of rather arbitrary rules. So long as we do that, we will have eternal life, right?
That's it...believe and behave. We don't have to do anything else in this existence. Nothing. We don't even really have to behave so long as we ask for his forgiveness when we misbehave. We don't have to help others... GOD says it would be nice, but we don't really have to. We don't have to discover or create. We don't have to heal the sick... that's his job. We don't have to explore. We don't have to expand our knowledge of things nor do we have to teach what we have learned to others... that is, anything outside of what the bible teaches. Art, music, literature, invention, exploration... all meaningless compared to what awaits us in the afterlife.
To use your analogy, at birth we can lie their on the ground like a snail, commit no sins, (how could we commit sin if we behave like snails), and just believe in the almighty and be granted his most valued gift.
Seems like a pretty insignificant existence to me. Luckily there are people who chose to evolve beyond such notions.
