three other explanations come to mind
(1) rogue planet captured, spin no associated with system at all
(2) remnant of a collision left spinning backwards
(3) eddies exist in all current systems that exibit non-laminar flow. such an eddy could condense rotating the "wrong" way.

Re: Big Bang Problem
You would also have to consider the angular momentum of every subatomic particle ... to arrive at a universe wide total

Re: Big Bang Problem
Actually the design of the toilets (and bathtubs etc) overpower the slight input from Coriolis effect in a body of that small a magnetude to the point this has been declared and urban myth ...
Does the Coriolis Effect Determine the Direction Water Goes Down a Drain?

Re: Toilets
Specially as my toilet has offcenter infow to encourage swirling.

Re: Big Bang Problem
ahahahaaa
a global experiment -- I love it.
seriously though
the outlet is offcenter thus disrupting the swirl action until it is nearly empty.
then you get to random effects: random currents (unless left until long after the 'trouble and strife' has screamed about access), hair, deformities in the drain. etc

Re: Big Bang Problem
Coriolis is well known in major currents -- it has to do with the cold water escalator that may usher in the next cold age on the back of global warming.

Re: bathtub swirl
I would think that to demonstrate the effect as purely as possible would mean using a large round tank with the water just left in it for an extended time. Draining it introduces a variable that is not needed.

inflation, big bang, many miles to go ..
teen15 --
not to disparage, but this is so far off of where the cosmological theory (known as the standard model) is that I don't know where to begin.
I recommend some reading and suggest some google on {guth inflation big bang} and {big bang alternatives} and {brane theory}
one of the ones you should come across from the first is
Inflationary Cosmology
which is fairly accessible to a layman understanding (no heavy math)
and one of the ones you should come across from the second is
Big Bang Alternatives
which tells you that it isn't all milk and honey.
one of the other theories that has gotten a fair bit of press lately is
'Brane-Storm' Challenges Part of Big Bang Theory
ekpyrosis model of cyclic universes from membranes colliding in an extra dimensional hyper-universe.
open eyes see far.
enjoy.
