Re: This is disgusting!
Berberry:
You really expect Yankees to act according to a code of honor or to show courtesy or compassion?

Re: This is disgusting!
Re: "Yankees? I live... what, maybe 300 miles north of you?"
Yeah, "Yankees."
I grew up 90 miles north of Berberry, and where we grew up you didn't talk disrespectfully of those who have passed away; especially not during the period of mourning (and it has absolutely nothing to do with one's political viewpoints regarding the deceased or his bereaved family). However, I have noticed over the 56 years I've spent on this miserable planet that you Yankees don't live by the same code of conduct as most of the rest of the world. Seems anything to garner attention or ego-inflation is kosher to you folks.
Peace. Ab.

Wasting Valuable Time
Ber:
You're wasting your time arguing honor with the callous-hearted. Your time would be better spent praying for or pleading the case of stem cell research and other medical/scientific research that hopefully will lead to cures for the cruel diseases that ravage our aging population.
Peace. Ab.

Re: It's Just Spurious
It's not about terminating criticism. It's about a temporary postponement, IN A PUBLIC FORUM, of flippant, rude, and callous remarks about a recently departed person. It's just a matter of good taste and social grace which apparently is beyond the comprehension of some folks.
If it's balls to the walls, caustic criticism that you want regarding Nixon, Ford, (president deleted,) Bush One, Bush Two, or any of the other puppets of the vast right wing conspiracy that's raping our country, I'm game anytime. If it's harsh jokes and innuendo about politicians you want, I can hold my own in that court too. Nevertheless, I will be temporarily suspending public criticism of Mr. Reagan while he lays in state.
Just because some folks in this forum, like some folks in the media, politics, bars, burger doodles, and warehouses across the country want to take this opportunity to slease-ball a recently deceased president doesn't mean we all share the same abyssmal tendencies.
Peace. Ab.

Re: It's Just Spurious
In Message 31, Dan Carroll whines, "I mean... what with all this talk about a period of mourning, there's got to be somebody here who actually has a vested interest in mourning for him."
Dan, maybe it's just that you have a vested interest in either substantiating the premise of this sorry thread, or vindicating your continued classless commentary.
Peace. Ab.

Re: Buddy, Can You Spare a Dime?
In Message 45, sfs says, "I see that there is now a move afoot to have Reagan's picture on either the ten or the twenty dollar bill, or possibly on the dime (alternating with FDR). In this context it is not unreasonable to criticize his performance as president."
These ideas were afoot months before (and made the news well in advance of) Reagan's death. Their appropriateness was the subject of debate before his passing, and can continue to be addressed after the funeral. What's the rush?
Peace. Ab.

Friends in Low Places
Scraf quotes, "You really expect Yankees to act according to a code of honor or to show courtesy or compassion?"
and answers, "Not any more that I expect southern rednecks to act according to a code of honor or show courtesy or compassion."
As Jaggar says, "No Expectations ..."

Amen!
Amen, Berberry. And I doubt many of those who have been so critical of Reagan over the last few days would understand the depth of your position since they were so wet behind the ears (as well as in the pants) during his terms in office (which is apparent from the shallowness of their critiques.)
It's interesting to see how opinions change and anger mellows as people mature. I remember being a rash, young rebel once. It sure is lonely being an opinionated, old cynic though.
Peace. Ab.

How About Before?
Where was all this lofty criticism before Mr. Reagan died? If there is a such a strong basis for hard-hitting critiques of Reagan policy this week, it seems like we should have seen a bit of it before. Don't use the lame excuse "well now that he died, he's in the public eye." That would just expose the shallowness of intent.
Peace. Ab.

I Just Find It Odd ...
I just find it odd that the lot of you argue incessantly over such life and death issues as singularities, Red Sea crossings, evolution of crayfish, and such ... but when someone dies, and only then, it becomes absolutely essential to discuss such mundane political issues like AIDS, stem cell research, and war.
Peace. Ab.
