I like to inject humor into my posts to solicit a laugh but they make for easy targets if someone choses to start quoting them to look like they are taking some kind of moral high ground and paint me as a callous monk.
Speaking of "callous," does anyone feel like debating a scriptural basis for the masturbation taboo?
(sorry, couldn't resist that one)
I find the whole "Onanism" tradition utterly ridiculous. It sounds like what Onan really did was withdraw and ejaculate on the floor. More importantly, the actual sin described was his refusal to bear children that would not be considered his own. In all my years in churches and youth groups, I never really heard anyone argue or preach against masturbation explicitly. It seemed that the supposed prohibition was so ingrained that nobody even felt the need to support it. But why? Last I checked, nowhere does the Bible say that touching yourself is a sin.
