Re: there is a god
quote:
God is, unfortunately, not real, and there is no heaven.
I wonder how many people would jump on your back if you had written
quote:
God is real and there is a heaven
Without saying anything construtive and just voicing an opinion.
I guess you're special.

Ok you say you've been "supporting your assertion" throughout the thread. I looked at this post.
quote:
Even as an atheist I cannot reasonably conclude the existence of no gods at all. But the most popular ones - the gods that might actually be able to exert some influence in our lives - are disproved through their own inaction, because action would be necessitated by their natures. A benevolent, omnipotent God does not exist in a universe were evils are committed unchecked - having the power to take action but choosing not to is not benevolent; having the will to take action but lacking the power to do so is not omnipotent. We can conclude that the benevolent, omnipotent God does not exist. All that's left right now are gods who lack power or who take no action, and who cares about them?
I agree that a benevolent omnipotent God does not exist. Not because of your reasons however. But because applying any inherently human adjective to God is pointless. I believe each and every human's experience is influenced by God.
quote:
Yet the answer to the question 'does God exist?' remains the most important one to get - for everybody.
I don't see how. If the question were that important it would be answerable. Unanswerable questions are irrelevant.
Apparently the question is answerable for some and not answerable to others, leaving the importance of the question totally subjective.
You say you have buffered your assertion of No God, No Heaven but all I see is plain statement and opinion that offer no validity to either argument.
quote:
I also agree that the existence of all possible gods cannot be falsified
quote:
Well, when I say "No God", I mean "No God as described in the Bible and by Christians", because that God obviously does not exist.
Even as an atheist I cannot reasonably conclude the existence of no gods at all
I'm confused, doesn't that make you agnostic?

Re: God can't do......what?
You can make an argument to say that God is benevolent, but that's only because he made himself man.
Why do you think God was called, or I should say wasn't called YHWH?
All God lets us know is that he exists.
God doesn't have attributes. God is beyond anything we can ever imagine.
But that's why I like the Bible.
It's a human struggle to know what God is.

Re: God can't do......what?
I believe it's God's word as in the things it says she says I believe she says.
But keep in mind.
It's inspired by God.
God didn't sit down and write it like a human did.
God is everything thing and all things, to describe her with words is pointless.

Re: Time to wrap up folks
That's so bogus. You aren't born as an atheist, it requires a certain bias. As does christianity, I'm just saying.
I think history is in favor of religion judging that the earliest people believed in a supreme being.

Re: Aside to Chris
I disagree.
I think coming to a conclusion of a God or gods through existence is pretty phenomenal.
Have you looked at the cave paintings.
The origins of animism in all its glory.
The belief that their is a spirit, that there is God in everything, is truly beautiful.
side note:
You don't think that is an honorable conclusion in existence?

A baby doesn't consciously acknowledge there is a God or there isn't.

No a baby isn't an atheist either. A baby is neutral and has no belief in anything.
Your mindset is annoying.

Re: Time to wrap up folks
Atheists have no belief in anything?
What's going on in your head?
All humans have beliefs.
Atheists believe there is no God
Atheists either believe there is a God or there isn't.
You're totally butchering definitions of words.
You're simply,
flatout,
wrong.
Don't try to make your belief something it isn't, that's all it is,
a belief.
atheism
quote:
n 1: the doctrine or belief that there is no God [syn: godlessness] [ant: theism] 2: a lack of belief in the existence of God or gods
