Hey B2P,
Since you accused me of laying a guilt trip on you in another thread, I feel this is partly the result of my statements so I should respond.
I was not attempting to lay a guilt trip on you, but rather to find out what you were going to teach? From where are you going to gain your wisdom to feed to your flock? Surely you want to teach the truth. So what truth are you going to teach, and how do you know it's the truth? If your teaching comes from yourself, it is human and flawed and I could care less what you say. If your teaching comes from scriptures which you admit are errant, then why should I sit and listen to your speculations about what the truth MAY be?
So you THINK Jesus Christ was probably Lord, the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob? Great! But how do I know you're right? If you can't assure me that you are right about this, then why should I waste my time?
I could not possibly maintain your stance. I can either be an agnostic/athiest or a hardcore Christian. I could not possibly preach something that I wasn't convinced was true. If I am not assured of the veracity of my teachings I don't see the point in even opening my mouth. Either the Bible is inspired and therefore trustworthy, or it is not. If it is not trustworthy, why should I believe in Christ?
If you are not going to use the Bible in your sermons except as anecdotes in a moral lesson, then what makes your teachings more valid than anyone else's? If they are not more valid, then what's the point?
Sigh... I just don't get it.

Thank you for your reply.
If the document's morality is not absolute, what does it matter if someone believes otherwise?
Sigh... there's so much MORE to the Bible than moral guidance...
My belief in Christ is because it feels right; takes hours to explain.
No need to explain. It feels right to me too, and not only that it makes sense to me.
he's a moral role-model whether one believes that He's real or not. An example of his calibur is what can inspire people.
Sigh... people need MORE than just a good moral role model. They need a God and savior.
If another preacher and I preach the same message from the same Bible passage, why would his be more valid just because he believes it really happened?
... I'm speechless... really, I can't even begin to think of what to say to that...

Thank you for your reply.
But even if people don't believe this, it's hard to argue He was quite a role model.
If the guy said he was God, he either was, or he was crazy. I don't see how you can have him be just a role model.
Besides, you can't expect people to just take your word for these extraordinary claims that we make.
But people do. They need to be assured of some truth. They need to be able to place their hope in something solid and unshakeable.
Please take all the time you need to do so, or if my beliefs have so offended you then you don't need to reply at all.
I just don't understand how you can care so little about what the truth really is. How can you preach something you are unsure is true? I think there is a huge overtly obvious difference between a person who says what he THINKS is true and a person who KNOWS what he says is true. A leader has to exhibit confidence. There is nothing wrong with confidence as long as you place your confidence in the right place.
