If God is dead, does mankind become God?

You've taken it too literally - that story is about the shifting cultural norms of europe away from a collective belief in the christian god concept.(or that's how I remember it from studying it many years previously).Anyway I live in a society (the uk) where your christian god concept has been practically dead for decades - we all manage to get out of bed in the morning, just fine.
