what is to sell about organic foods? eating what God intended That was a question that one of our members posed in Chat, and I think would make an interesting discussion. What foods are available that are "what God intended?" Even in the third world, what food stuffs are still available that have not been molded, created, through human design and manipulation? One of the funny videos out there is the classic "Banana" example, where a banana is held up as an example of something God designed. What is so funny is the banana that is used as an example is a classic example of human intervention and design. It is the result of humans modifying something to meet the very human needs of shipping and marketing. So what is still out there that is "what God intended?" Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Ezekiel writes: Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof But even there, is there wheat, barley, beans (of some kind), lentils, millet or fitches available today that are not the result of human modification and selective breeding? What about wild berries? Blueberries, Gooseberries, Bilberries, Strawberries, and Raspberries? Almost all the result of human breeding. And the few truly native ones are often small and bitter. Edited by jar, : No reason given. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Planting seeds from apple trees that had been grown and cultivated by man for millennia?

Is the same true with vegetables? Corn? Lettuce? Beans? And what about Eggs from Hens? Absolutely true. And yes, both the chicken and the egg are the result of human engineering. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

To jar - would selective breeding automatically disqualify something as "God-intended?" Especially if He commanded us to "subdue the earth." Wouldn't that possibly entail manipulating foodstuffs to our benefit? Why or why not? But God is not "manipulating foodstuffs to our benefit", rather we are changing things to what we intended, to our tastes and more recently, to the demands of world-wide commercial shipping. If god intended for bananas to be long, firm and virtually seedless, God had the chance to make it that way. But God did not; man made the banana what it is today. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

There are grubs and worms and termites and spiders and lizards and saskatoons. If you could find wild bananas you could eat them if you wanted.
There are pine nuts, and caterpillars and a few wild birds and fish. What other things are still as God Intended? Aslan is not a Tame Lion |

The end result though is that we did the manipulating.
My point in the OP was that some folk tend to think processed food as one example, or GM foods, are "Not what God intended". If though they take your position, whatever is there is "what God Intended." Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Well, thanks. That might be true. But as with Jaderis' post, if we take that tack then any and all food stuffs available could be classed as "as God Intended" or we get into some judgmental blame game.
But this thread is oriented more towards simply trying to find what foodstuffs might still be available that are not designer foods. Edited by jar, : fix sub-title Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Wouldn't it take a lot of sweat of our brow to forage for enough nourishment? I'm not so sure. Don't most studies show foraging is actually less labor intensive than farming? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Cattle are absolutely designed by man. You might be able to call something like a Wildebeest as God intended.
And deer are among the most managed of herds out there. Aslan is not a Tame Lion
