Off-topic, but of related interest.
A recent issue of The Nation had several short articles, each one supporting one of the Democratic contenders.

Time for a new subtitle.
If Obama thinks like his mentor pastor who likes The Nation Of Islam which wants a nation of and by black extremist racists, hating whites and Jews, what has Obama got in mind for whites down the line?
Note that I only included one question mark in the copied quote.
Anyway, not only have I never heard any "Nation of Islam" views come from Obama, I don't recall you ever quoted this "mentor pastor" as saying anything I disagree with. What is it again that this pastor is supposed to have said that is so objectionable?

Does any like This Modern World?
Boy, this reminded me of a conversation we've had here:

...Onward to Victory is the last great illusion the Republican Party has left to sell in this country, even to its own followers. They can't sell fiscal responsibility, they can't sell "values," they can't sell competence, they can't sell small government, they can't even sell the economy. -- Matt Taibbi

Re: Obama and the Rev. Wright
Would you say that Bush would then think like Jerry Falwell relative to homosexality, access to Heaven and other controversial matters?
Well, for one thing, Falwell is well known and his statements make news -- it would be hard for Bush, or anyone, to claim he didn't know what Falwell stood for.
But more importantly, Bush has a record of public statements and political actions by which one can figure out his stand. Using past associations to try to judge a new politician without a record is certainly fair; but when a politician does have a record, then I think his actual recorded behavior says more than his past associations.
Obama also has a record. He was an Illinois state senator of 8 years, and he has been a US senator for 2 years -- certainly long enought to have been involved in legislation. What does Obama's public statements, his political activism, and his legislative history say about his stands on the issues that you are bringing up?

Re: Obama and religion
Interesting, too, how these charges are being made by people who would never, ever, under any circumstances vote for Obama or for anyone who might even be remotely "liberal". If these charges had any basis in fact, you'd think that more disinterested people would be able to find them.

Re: Obama and the Rev. Wright
quote:
By association it is crystal clear that Obama likes what this preacher thinks and has aquessed to it for 23 years.
Why go by something as vague and open to interpretation as association? His voting record in both the Illinois and US Senates and his speaches made therein are a matter of public record. Why not present something more concrete from his public record?

Whoa!
Bear in mind that the world wide Islamic conspiracy to dominate the planet has made a concerted effort to infiltrate our Pentagon and in fact our entire government so as to establish Islam in the US of A as is being accomplished in Europe and as, imo, is prophecied in the Biblical prophecies.
Why do I feel like it's 1950 all over again?

Re: the Arabian Candidate
Hi, H.
I don't know if you noticed this thread, but this is where the whole "Manchurian Muslim" issue first showed it's absurd face here. (Ironically, brennakimi started this thread to try to have a serious conversation about Obama without the "Secret Agent Muslim" nonsense.)

Re: Obama and the Rev. Wright
I find your lack of insight on this stunning. Xians and Jews have continued throughout the millenia to remind themselves and everyone else how horrible the Egyptians were, the Romans were, and continually fearmonger about other people that do not believe or live as they do. Heck, Passion plays are still popular, eh?
Holy shit! How could we have forgotten how Mel Gibson's snuff film, The Passion of Christ, (and the Gospel of John, for that matter) was defended against charges of anti-Semitism?
Good point, H. Motes and beams, indeed.

Re: Transcript of Obama Speech
He could turn out to be a Kennedy....
You mean killed early on and then canonized as a saint? That's what a lot of black folk are thinking, actually.
-
...he could be a one-term lame duck like Carter.
You mean an intelligent and far-sighted President whose policies, no matter how obviously necessary and correct, will be ridiculed and resisted until he's ejected from the political scene? That's what I expect, actually.

Re: Transcript of Obama Speech
To Buz: please read the entire transcript and tell me how, as a christian and an American, you feel his words indicate anything but positive intentions for this nation. These are HIS words. How would you judge them?
You know, I feel like I'm reading the science forums. The truth has already be determined; all facts will be shoe-horned into the consistency with the predetermined truth, and any inconvenient fact will be ignored.

Re: Transcript of Obama Speech
This man's shady affiliates and the fact that he has the most liberal socialist voting record in the Senate raises red flags all over the place.
Ha ha! Double meaning of "red flag" -- good one!
Actually, that's cool. If true I might get up and register to vote.

Re: Huckabee on Obama and Wright

Off-topic and probably unnecessary clarification
My point was that socialists agree with the Wright contention that the rich are the source of America's problems.
Actually, socialists don't believe the rich are the source of America's problems. The problems are inherent in an economic system where the few own the means and products produced by the majority. "The rich" are simply folks who have an understandable self-interest in maintaining the a system that is the source of their wealth and power.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don't know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president. -- Kurt Vonnegut
