I think you're being needlessly unpleasant, and heck, this is me talking.
Your post #15 did leave me confused as to your personal opinions, as opposed to what you think that states are constitutionally obliged to do, and your post #44 leaves me equally unsure as to what you would vote for in VA.
To clear up further confusion, let's just ask this. If your state had a referendum on making gay marriage legal, how would you vote?

If you really didn't care, then you wouldn't vote, right?
No, it would also be possible to abstain out of a strongly-held principle.

Re: affecting me
Appealing to a lack of specific examples of effects as an argument that there will be no effects, is not something that a conservative is going to find persuasive.
And it sounds like:" Shhh, trust me, everything's gonna be fine, don't worry about it." That sends conservatives the other way, imho.
No, you've misunderstood what the argument is about.
If you like, I'll explain this in more detail later, but right now I want to find a comfy bed and lie down in it. In the meantime I would suggest that you read over more carefully the posts that you are discussing.

Re: affecting me
Its not so bad... I'm not broke and uneducated, that's pretty sweet.
And did you grow up in Conservatopia, or in the real world?
Everything that happens in your state has some effect on you.
No it doesn't. Somewhere in my state someone just decided to have extra cheese on his burger. It's no skin off my nose.
This is the very basis of our concept of personal liberty. To quote Thomas Jefferson, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. If everything that happened in my state affected me, then I would have a right to have a say on everything that happened in my state. But it doesn't, so I don't. It's none of my darn business.
Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

Sure, but what does that have to do with not-voting following from not-caring?
You're quite right, I just committed the fallacy known technically as Affirming The Consequent.
In my defense, I would point out that, as I said, I was really dog-tired.

Re: Know what a NeoCon is?
Then why do we pay more for health care per capita than people who live in countries with nationalized health care?
Because the United States does not ration care. Other nations employing a socialized form of healthcare, by necessity, must ration care because for something like one's health, the demand will always be greater than the supply.
An excess of demand over supply causes high prices, not low prices. So it canot be (and demonstrably is not) a shortage of care in more civilized countries that makes healthcare cheaper.
As for "rationing", any form of "rationing" which in no way restricts the access of any individual to goods or services is not in fact "rationing". Perhaps you should think of a new word for it, such as "unrationing" or "antirationing".

Re: Know what a NeoCon is?
That's not how it works in the cold and unforgiving wild, so why would the opposite be true now?
My idea of civilization is that we distance ourselves as far from the cold and unforgiving wild as possible.
If I want to know what it's like, I'll go camping in Alaska.
