Re: Another example of why I hate religion
Oddly enough, I have a friend who just went through a divorce and went through the things your poem described. When I talked to her yesterday, I had to remind her that I don't judge and that as long as she's happy then I'm happy. Just that sentence from me made her more comfortable and she began to open up. Personally I've always thought her husband was a jerk.
Once upon a time I was in love with her. The thing that drove me away from her was our ideological differences. At the time I had already become an atheist and began to openly bring up gay rights issues. She remained a good christian girl.
Anyway, one of my relatives, a good christian, told me "that girl" got problems for divorcing her husband. I almost snapped. The guy really is an asshole.

... we don't ever want to see you again.
Bunch.
Of.
Wankers.
When my mum came out in the late 80s my nan and grandad bent over backwards to be supportive even though they were both xians and of 'that generation'.
Such as shame when love is overcome by religion.
Go Jesus!

Re: Another example of why I hate religion
I had to remind her that I don't judge...
quote:
The "don't say gay" bill is perhaps one of the most evil things that came out from the christian right since those sodomy laws.
Here are some things that will result from this bill if it gets passed next year.
(1) Teachers will be forbidden to counsel suicidal gay kids because they are forbidden to mention anything gay related.
(2) All literature having any mention of homosexuality will be thrown out.
(3) In history class, teachers will not be able to teach that gay people were victims of the holocaust and other genocidal acts in history.
Just a few things off the top of my head.
So this thread is for just making up bullshit and bashing the religious right?
I'll play along... as the devil's advocate of course.
If this bill doesn't pass then teachers will be forcing homosexuality on our kids. They'll be showing gay porn videos right there in the kindergarden. The left will further their agenda of turning kids gay to bring them away from thier religion so everybody will be athiests.

On second thought, though, it sounds more like god's advocate than the devil's

I disagree.
Clearly, homosexuality isn't natural. Clearly no one has any gay intent from birth. Everyone is born 100% hetero and has absolutely no interest in gay sex.
So, the only people who are gay are people who were talked into it by gays.
Those gays were themselves talked into it by other gays, going all the way back to the original gay who was talked into it by....
I don't know, I guess a natural born hetero sexual who has no interest in homosexuality but did it anyway because....
Ah crud, this line of reasoning is collapsing the more I think about it.
Better not think. Praise Jesus!

The black population hasn't decreased any. If it comes up for vote again when Obama is on the same ballet, it's likely gonna stay the same.

I know the racial demographics are pretty strong, but general public opinion has been slowly but surely swaying in the right direction. More and more people are seeing that legalizing gay marriage really doesn't have any effect whatsoever on anyone else; nuclear families don't remain stable any more or less frequently when you legalize gay marriage, people don't suddenly turn gay, and the world in general does not actually end.
It's hard to argue against that. Enough states have recognized gay marriage that, if the bigots were in any way right, we would have seen some of their predicted effects, and we simply don't. Instead, we see more families, more marriages, and that's about it. Just like what the equality advocates have been saying for years.
Even people who disapprove of homosexuality can't try to sway others the way they did in the Prop h8 campaign, claiming vague "threats" to "normal" marriage. You can't run a campaign on "protecting marriage" any more when it's blatantly obvious in multiple other states that there's simply no enemy to defend marriage from.
