Author | Topic: How can we regulate guns ... ? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The second amendment does not give me any right to own a gun as the people of the different states already had the right to have and bear arms. They had that right when they raised up against England and won their freedom. That right was never taken away from them. Curiously enough, you were not there. You have never enjoyed the same freedom related to gun ownership that the colonists had. Almost certainly, your state provides restrictions, passed by your own state legislature, that both affect on gun ownership that did not exist at the time of the American Revolution. How does that square with your position that no gun rights have been given up?
In other words the Federal government can not infringe the right concerning the possession of and bearing of Arms that was available prior to the formation of the Federal government. ICANT can you justify that proposition? Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

There are certain places they do not want me to carry open and I respect their wishes. But when it comes to my house and my property there are no rules. If I feel I or my family is threatened I can use deadly force. My state is a stand your ground state. What difference does the law in your state make. According to you, you can wield your gun just as if it were 1812? Or can you?Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. That question was settled by a civil war about 150 years ago. ICANT writes: Nothing was settled but that the democrats would not have slaves. So they have now got them back on the plantation by making them dependent on the government. Damn. That's some cold racist stuff dude. I suppose it is true that there some neo-confederates for whom the civil war settled very little. But for those of us without marmalade skies, the issue has been authoritatively settled. Justice Scalia has had something to say about this question:

How about the Fort Hood shootings that took place on an army base?

Somehow, needing to be constantly surrounded by the secret service and other armed guards has been distorted into being some kind of privilege rather than the actual nightmare it truly is.
I'm sure there is a short, catchy way to demonstrate this that someone will come up with. I'm not artsy-craftsy enough to do it, but isn't it obvious that nobody sane wants their children forted up 24 X 7?Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Pass a law that murder using a gun merits life in prison without the possibility of parole. My guess is that current laws only prescribe this penalty for first degree murder of any type. Are you suggesting that, for example, 2nd degree murder with a gun should result in life imprisonment?Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. What evidence could you possibly have for historical facts other than people saying they occurred? And if many people say it that ought to carry some weight. Yikes. It took awhile, but I was able to convince my kids that "They say" isn't a citation.
If I owned the books all I could do is quote them and give their sources. And yet giving us a source is the absolute minimum. When the sources are provided, that is when the vetting begins. What you are asking us to do is just to accept your impression of what some unknown person wrote. Not going to happen. Perhaps this is more of the stuff that ought to be on your blog.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. I though you believed in evolution and the survival of the fittest. The statement above is incredibly poorly thought out. Do you believe in gravity? Does that mean that you seek to flow to the floor like water?Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Dr. Adequate writes: Would you say that the government has taken away your heroin? ICANT writes: When and where did you have a right to possess heroin?
Has the government taken away your 5 inch 54? Or is it the case that you never actually had either the gun or a ship to mount it on? That is the context of the question posed by Dr. Adequate. It should be clear that we can substitute any object or substance you don't own, legal or not into the question with the same effect.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. ICANT writes: The democrats have placed many black people back under slavery along with a larger numbers of white people as some 49% of the population is dependent on Uncle Sam to provide money for them to buy food and goods to survive on. All that is demanded in return is their votes at election time. I'm going to assume that in order to reach numbers as high as 49% that you [ICANT] are including retirees who are dependent on social security and retired servicemen. And you want to compare that with slavery? Seriously dude. Get a grip. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. The problem is that the quote box was authored by ICANT, but by leaving out something like "ICANT writes:" above the quote box, it looks like NoNukes is replying to RAZD as if RAZD wrote the quote box.. Yeah, I'll fix the quote box. And responding to RAZD probably makes it likely that ICANT won't actually respond. I'm fine with that too. Where can I find one of those shows? Everyone I have ever been too I had to fill out the 4473 form which requires a background check. Before I could take posession of a weapon. It's been pointed out to you several times that 33 states don't require such checks. It's even been pointed out to you that the checks are only required in some Florida counties. No, that one's OK. The legend says that the colors represent the top candidate's share of the vote, so a county is only light pink if Romney won it with 40% It's 'OK' if a county vote percentage actually meant something absent some indication of the county's population. Romney did not actually win the popular vote despite the overall pink tinge of the map.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. I can not find a licensed dealer in the state of Florida that will sell and transfer a gun to my posession without me filling out ATF form 4473 and them running a background check. Every pawn shop I have asked is the same. So maybe you know something I don't know You think?Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison.
