What evidence do you have that your proposals would work? That they would be anything other than an excessive intrusion into law-abiding citizens' exercise of their Constitutional rights?
Are you just spitting out crap that feels good, or do you have some solid proof that these proposals are both effective and non-infringing on citizens' rights?
You're advocating for a lot of political action here, so I hope you can prove it will be worth all the effort and costs for enforcement.

While it may be constitutional (arming a well-trained militia), why is owning a gun made such a necessity? Why can the Japanese live almost totally without handguns just like the Britons?
I honestly just wanted to puke when I saw the pics circulating the web of peeps posing in front of the Xmas tree with their Bushmasters. Sick sick sick!!!
We are in some respect just worlds apart.

Care to comment on the topic of the thread, or would you rather do as your comrades have been doing and just continue spewing illogical, irrational, gun-fear nonsense?
Thank you for your balanced and non-inflammatory reply.
In my country no civilian can carry concealed. All the hunting guns have to be kept locked (a mere cabinet will not do) and every gun permit seeker has to go through an interview with a policeman AND a physician.
I cannot understand the irrational fear of living in a world without handguns. I just cannot see anything good in them - I understand people having hunting rifles and shotguns but...
Why did you have to retort to calling me a commie when I said that seeing pics of people portraying their Sandy Hook-killers wanted me to puke. If those were not bad taste then what is?

These young thugs have glorified guns and I do think they should be disabused of that.
You are right but how is that different from cheery people standing in front of a xmas tree with their gift Bushmaster? Why is it that a gun is even considered a lovely gift?
'Merica has a love affair with guns and violence that stems from its past - other nations have been able to leave less desirable parts of their history behind, why cannot the US?

I just heard the NRA's anti-gun control ad.
The President's children have armed guards why don't yours?
Surely this sort of crazed nonsense will work against them?
It definitely should. I could hardly believe how low the NRA would be willing to go. Probably that ad was able to anger some people who are either unable or unwilling to comprehend anything complex.
The ad shows very clearly that the NRA has zero integrity and no real want or need to make things any better - loathable, just loathable.

Re: 2-d covariance math says....wow!!
Thank you Dr A for bringing some clarity to the issue. The correlations are nothing short of damning for the gun-toting lobby.
Apparently educated, liberal areas with stricter gun laws DO really have a lower level of gun violence. How surprizing
