Mike, I am very careful who I tell about being Agnostic. It can get people very threatened and agressive.
I live in a Small oasis of a University town in the state of Michigan. The rest of the state is very conservative Christian for the most part. Only a short srive out of town in almost any direction and I will start to see homemade billboards erected on farmland which read "repent or die!", or some other Bible quote meant to induce fear or guilt. Sometimes they have graphic depictions of a crucified Jesus with blood running down his face.
There is also a lot of anti-semitism around here.

Ah, the old double standard.
If a woman is seen as feminine, she isn't considered up to such a serious, demanding job like being Prime Minister of a country, yet if she is less feminine, serious, and forceful, she is faulted for not being more feminine.

Remember, mike, Michigan is where the anti-government militia movement began in the US.
This state is no stranger to extremeism.

quote:
I mean why do people here Believe in God more then other countries?
I think that a big reason is that many of the immigrants who came/come here leave their homes because of religious prosecution. The Puritains, after all, were the first, and they were pretty morose, ultra-repressed Christian wackos. These days it's not religious wackos much.
Also, compared to many first world countries, we do a terrible job feeding, sheltering, and educating our less fortunate citizens. When one is desperately poor and have no hope of a life beyond grinding poverty, crime, violence, poor education/illiteracy, and substance abuse, belief in a wonderful heaven that you will go to when you die is extremely attractive.
