Why does God need to be worshiped and why do people worship God?
My theory is that God demands worship because, in some way, it is good for us as humans to focus on Him rather than on all of the vain substitutes which we actually do "worship" in a figurative and/or literal sense on a daily basis.
Surely an all powerful and perfect being would not need us to worship them.
Again, He doesnt need it nor does He desire it for Himself. He desires we do it because it is good for us that we do it.
Isn't worship a man made concept created by egotistical rulers?
Sure. Humans always seek to imitate the Divine and substitute creature worship for Creator worship. Its in our blood.

Humans love rituals. Assuming God loves humans, I would imagine that He prefers genuine spontaneity over ritual. When worship comes from the heart it is good for us.

When it is directed toward an inanimate object, ourselves, or other creature, it becomes harmful, in my opinion.
