Having successfully replaced the word of God with the word of Smith, they are not to be construed as anything other than cult. And where did you get the idea that they replaced the word of God? Or is God only allowed to talk to you? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Anything that changes scripture in translation or teaches something fundimentally different from what the bible teaches (especially about persons in the Godhead like the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses do) is what one can describe as a cult. So God stopped talking to folk? He just get in a snit or something and walk away? LOL. What possible reason can you have for saying that God is incapable or has refused to speak to anybody for the last 2000 years or so? If something happens once, it may be unique. When it happens more than once it is no longer unique. When it happens several times thaere is no reason to think it will not happen again. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

And you know that God did not speak to them through the Book of Mormon?

To say that the Roman Catholic Church is a cult is simply silly. To say that Christ is not the center of the Roman Catholic Church is equally silly.

Crap.
There is absolutely no reason to think that God did not reach out to a whole new group of people just as he did numerous times in the OT and through Jesus, just as he did through Mohammud. Their relationship is between them and God. If wrong, then it is still between them and God. After all, Christ did not say to worship him. When he was asked he said that the two Great Commandments are: "Love GOD, and to love others as you love yourself". Love GOD not Christ. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

if you take a careful look at the RCC you'll find that Mary occupies the throne of grace, followed behind by a plethora of saints. From the First Council of Nicea...
We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, that is, of the substance [ek tes ousias] of the Father, God of God, light of light, true God of true God, begotten not made, of the same substance with the Father [homoousion to patri], through whom all things were made both in heaven and on earth; who for us men and our salvation descended, was incarnate, and was made man, suffered and rose again the third day, ascended into heaven and cometh to judge the living and the dead. And in the Holy Ghost. Those who say: There was a time when He was not, and He was not before He was begotten; and that He was made our of nothing (ex ouk onton); or who maintain that He is of another hypostasis or another substance [than the Father], or that the Son of God is created, or mutable, or subject to change, [them] the Catholic Church anathematizes. There are many religions across the world that claim differently. How am I supposed to know who is right, or if any of them are right? Does it matter. If one is right, that does not mean that the others are wrong. And despite what PG and others have said, the basic tenet of Christianity is not Christ, but GOD. Jesus said "Thou shalt love the Lord Thy God" He did not say Love Jesus. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Christ, the way and means to God. He is the way and only way to the Father... Sorry, but the Jews had a direct way to the Father long before Jesus was born. They still do. Although you can say that there is no way for a Christian other than through a belief in Christ, that does not mean that a Jew, or Muslim cannot speak directly to the Big Guy. Nor does it mean that you can't ask Mary to put in a word for you. And that is all that the RCC says. They ask Mary to interceed for them. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

It would appeear that there were quite a few prayers among the Hebrews, even from the earliest period. I seem to remember a few sacrifices and even quite a few direct one on one encounters.
But I'll check with some more of my brethern (afterall, I'm only an honorary member of the tribe) and get back to you. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Sorry charlie.
Mohammed was a man. And the Koran is very clear about that. He was a chosen prophet of GOD. "There is no GOD but Allah and Mohammusd is his Prophet"
He was a child molester Mohammud was not a child molester. That is simply nonsense. If you would like to debate the issue of Islam, please start athread and I, as a Christian and Child of the Book, will be happy to stand up and support their position. But what does any of your rantings have to do with Mormons? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

They really stretch things to get around that. Most folk that support the belief that Mary is of the line of David do so using Luke 3:23. But if you read Luke 3, everything is a male lineage and there is no mention of Mary.
They get around this by a slick, slight of hand. They assume that the lineage given for Joseph in Luke is actually of Mary by asserting that where it says Joseph is son of Heli that it actually means son-in-law and so the rest applies to Mary, not Joseph. This is also needed because in other verses Joseph is said to be the son of Jacob (see Matthew 1). So there are two conflicting lineages shown, one having Joseph descended from Jacob, one from Heli. Other instances use the Psalm 132 where it says:
11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. which is kinda a backdoor approach. The Psalm verse is a little weak too since the very next stanza says...
12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

is pretty clear. The pontiff saw that the supposedly Christian rulers of Northern Europe were busy fighting each other. That was interfering with the peaceful collection of revenue. So he decided to redirect the violence to some external target. The Muslim world was handy.
But once agin, you are pulling us way off topic. This thread was meant to address the Mormon faith in relation to whether or not it is Christian or should be considered a cult. If you really look at the cults within Christianity, it becomes obvious that the largest single cult is that made up of Fundamentalists and Literalists. Those are the really prevalent cults today.
