He Shoots - He End Runs.

Reading creationists trying to talk about biology is often like listening to someone pretending to be knowledgable about sports by saying: "And then the referee did an endrun around the shortstop, so of course the quarterback awarded a slam-dunk". Message 298
But how many wickets did they take and how many runs did they score?
Talk about ignoring the vital information!!!

Re: The Ashes Returns
As long as the Aussies keep catching like schoolgirls the series will be ours.
One of the more pathetic displays of fielding in my memory (although to be fair my memory is pretty crap). But hopefully with Johnson missing out our attack will be able to maintain a more constant pressure on the South African batsmen.
Friday. I have several bets going with Aus members of staff at work. Adelaide is the one they seem to think they will win.
I will be there and have already started praying to the God of Krikkit (there's a deity I can respect).

That must be a reference to Donald Bradman.

Good first day? I enjoyed it!!!
Aus all out for 245 on day one in what appeared to be perfect batting conditions. Too early for proper gloating as yet. But I am polishing my gloating face in anticipation of it seeing some action very soon.

Re: The Ashes Returns
I go to South Africa every year for a week or so and I watch cricket while I am there. It is all very confusing to figure out by myself. I have bought a couple books to help me figure it out. I am enthralled with the game.
Unfortunately, it is not readily available to watch in the US. Directv offers a package, but it is very expensive and not knowing much about the game I am not sure what I would be buying.
The Ashes is not available at all. Currently Directv does not offer any cricket. Maybe I will feel adventurous and pay to watch some matches this next year.

Re: The Ashes Returns
I refuse to subsidise the Murdoch empire through pay-TV. But this does make watching cricket kinda difficult. Pub watching is my method of choice.
But the ashes matches down-under don't even start until 11:30PM UK time.
Which means highlights stuff on normal TV and BBC radio for live stuff.

I think if you find the live match baffling I suspect the radio commentary will seem like an alien language!!!!

Oh yes my first introduction to cricket was 25-20 years ago listening to the BBC on shortwave. Just the scoring summaries alone were enough to make my head swim.

Re: The Ashes Returns
My missus (from Argentina) who is both baffled by, and despairing of, my cricket enthusiasm genuinely cannot tell the difference between the cricket commentary and the shipping forecasts which interrupt BBC's coverage of cricket.
A well flighted googly is indistinguishable from a low pressure front as far as she is concerned.

You shot a googly? Sir, you are a cad.
As every gentleman knows, a googly should be hunted with hounds.

Or "The batsman is Holding, the bowler's Willey"
If we want to go down the line of classic cricketing commentary puns.

Well in Wisconsin the only thing you can hunt with hounds is bear(hardly seems sporting to me)
And I sir, am no gentleman.
