Chirp
Our local track and field track (and field) has a cricket field beside it. Most of the players apparently come from the Caribbean. I've also seen the kids playing cricket in front of the local Sikh temple.
So... I can recognise cricket when I see it.
Then there's the Monty Python sketch about the legendary Batsmen of the Kalihari.
Incidentally, when I Googled "cricket" to find out what a cricket field is called, I was surprised to see that the game comes before the insect.

It's called a cricket pitch.
Wikipedia says it's a "field" and the "pitch" is a specific part of it.
Straggler writes:
Given the countries that do play cricket, their combined population and the fact that they speak English....
The pitch is a field. The pitcher is a bowler but he doesn't bowl in a bowling alley. The batter is a batsman but the bowler isn't a bowlman. You call that English?
And when I Googled "bat", the mammal came up first.

In cricket a "pitcher" is a big jug full of Pimms.
What's a Pimm? And how many can you get in a jug?

You didn't even get to the bit about silly mid on...
I knew it. The whole "game" is just a Monty Python sketch.
... or the bit about bowling a maiden over.
Well, when I was younger....

The best movie I can recall that mentions cricket is The Lady Vanishes
quote:
Iris Henderson: I was having tea about an hour ago with an English lady. You saw her, didn't you?
Charters: Well, I don't know, I mean, I was talking to my friend, wasn't I?
Caldicott: Indubitably.
Iris Henderson: Yes, but you were sitting at the next table. She turned and borrowed the sugar. You must remember.
Charters: Yes, I recall passing the sugar.
Iris Henderson: Well then you saw her.
Charters: I repeat we were deep in conversation. We were discussing cricket.
Iris Henderson: Well, I don't see how a thing like cricket can make you forget seeing people.
Charters: Oh, don't you? If that's your attitude, there's nothing more to be said! Come Caldicott. "A thing like cricket!"
Gilbert: Wrong tactics. We should've told him we were looking for a lost cricket ball.

In fact, [insert your favourite team here] won the world championship (or equivalent) and you personally scored the winning touchdown/goal/run.
