I've put this on the todo list - thanks for the suggestion!

I'm unable to duplicate the problem in my own copy of IE8, but maybe we have different subversions. I'm using 8.0.6001.18702.
Do you have VNC installed at home or work? If not, would you be willing to install it? It can be found at RealVNC - Remote access software for desktop and mobile | RealVNC. It would allow me access to your desktop. About the specific error message you're receiving, yes, I'm familiar with it. It means that IE is not handling the <button> tag properly. There's some Javascript code that programs around this problem and that works for IE6-9 that I know of.

Minnemooseus writes: The PNT indicates 3 total message, but no message 2 shown. Message 3 is the promotion message. The promoted version has 2 message 1's, and no message 2. Message 3 is the promotion message, and the first message 1 is a copy of the promotion message, except it is attributed to "No Name Available". The first time I tried to promote the topic I ran into a bug, but the message describing the move was still added, so I deleted it. When I promoted the thread for real after fixing the bug the deleted message somehow became undeleted and became message 1. There may still be a bug or two left, I'm looking into it now. Deleted messages are only deleted, not expunged - a future feature will be for moderators to be able to read and undelete deleted messages.

ICANT is cut-n-pasting his material from somewhere, it's got the exact same typos and width every time, I fixed it again. I can't find where he's getting it from using Google, maybe someone wants to play detective and track it down?
This isn't related do dBoard 4.0, so if he does it again just post a note to Report Discussion Problems Here 3.0.

One more experiment, we should have tried this earlier. If you log out does search work?
AbE: Once VNC is installed then send me your IP address (Just a moment...) and password via PM. Edited by Admin, : AbE.

We don't have these here, but they'd be incredibly easy to add if there's demand for them. In fact, most of my time would be spent updating the dBCdode help page.
The reason we don't have them is because except for the brackets they're identical to html, but I can believe that remembering which codes need to be HTML could be a pain.

Jon writes: I just noticed in Bluejay's Message 192 that a space before the URL breaks the link (though it still highlights like a link for some reason). Has this always been like this, or is it something unique to the recent update? Yes, it has always been this way, and no, it doesn't have to be. I can certainly believe what Jar says about spaces breaking the link at most bulletin boards, it's surprising how little attention many bulletin boards give to rendering the codes because it's easy to be more forgiving, and if after giving it some thought I can't think of any downside then I will do so.

Hi Straggler,
I haven't heard from you in a few days. I assume you're still having the same problem. If we can do that VNC session I'm sure I can fix it. I've made a few more fixes over the past few days, you might give it another try on the off chance that I accidentally fixed it.

Hi Stile,
Good idea, I'll put it on the todo list.

If you meant iPad instead of iPod then I'm not seeing any problems accessing long threads on my iPad2 while logged out. If you really meant iPod then I don't understand how you're accessing the site. Can you clarify or provide more information?

Coyote and F&L,
I noticed the same problem and changed the color, which can of course be tweaked. Let me know what you think.

Hmmm - I might have overdone it this time, hope I don't blind anyone, what do you think?

I'm starting to feel the same way. Doing it this way simplifies other things, but if it still feels weird after a couple days I'll back the change out.

I guess you have the iPod touch? I think it runs the same iOS 4 that the iPad does, and I'm unable to reproduce the problems on it. I'll ask around and see if I can find someone with a Touch.
No big deal, just a wierd bug it seemed. Weird bugs make my day!
