And then there is the US
Only one US state has a student teacher ratio near 10, and the average Elementary student teacher ratio in the US is over 20. source
And we hope to compete in the world.

Laissez-faire economics is of the Devil
Laissez-faire economics is simply rape made respectable.
As productivity increases we need to redistribute the National Gross Domestic Product to all of those living in that Nation whether they work or not.
Also, as a Nation, it is in our best interest to make sure that there is no "Monied Class", those who inherit money they did not earn, and so we need a progressive inheritance tax.
Finally a major and important function of Government is to be the 900 pound Gorilla that acts as a check against capitalism.

Re: Laissez-faire economics is of the Devil
You are not a slave and in fact there is almost no chance of you ever becoming a slave and so as usual, you are simply whining and making stuff up and not reading what folk post.
If you look at my post you will find that it works in your favor. Under Laissez-faire capitalism, when you can be replace by a machine you should be replaced by a machine and just tossed away.
Is that what you want?

Re: Laissez-faire economics is of the Devil
No, of course it is not called communism.
Capitalism has a place but Laissez-Faire Capitalism is also the most inhumane of all the possible economic system. Basic empathy should be enough to show that.
What is needed is a governmental check on capitalism to make sure that it does not rape everyone, only those who consent to being raped.

Re: No Income No Spend
Actually, if the machine can make more widgets at a lower cost then it's likely he can also reduce the number of his employees.
I wonder if that would effect their ability to purchase anything?

To work, or not work
I was lucky over the years to work with a whole bunch of folk in a whole bunch of different industries in a whole bunch of states here in the US. These were all folk that just couldn't imagine not working, not doing something new that had never been done.
We are reaching a point where we need to ask if we really want folk working that would rather be doing something else?
Should we be planning for a day when only those that really, really want to work do, and the rest of the population can just get a monthly check and health care and shelter and then just stay the hell outta the way?
