I haven't seen Minority Report, but yeah, I guess there's nothing new under the sun.
But I've thought for years that a device that could track my hands/fingers would be ideal--I'd also like to see a similar interface used to create/conduct music.
I can type around 100 wpm on a physical keyboard (clocked at 120 wpm in my youth--I've slowed), and if I didn't have to fully complete those digit gestures, I bet I could double that.
Add point and double-point, plus all the touchscreen stuff in 3-D instead of 2-D and without actual touch, and I think even voice would have difficulty matching the input density you could achieve.
