Re: Windows 8?
It probably isn't as bad as its critics say.
I loaded it on a VM environment just to try it, and IMO, it is that bad. MS is trying to force a tablet interface onto the desktop and it just doesn't work that way.

Re: Windows 8?
There is a way to get a "normal" desktop, but what little I used it, it was severely gimped. I am far more experienced with a PC than an average person and in my opinion, it was not at all intuitive. It seemed like an entirely new OS. This was even with the desktop view. For example: I opened the email client and fuck me if I couldn't close it. I had to actually reboot my VM just to get out of the email.
Now, for touch interfaces? I could see it catching on. Like the desktop monitors that are touch enabled. But to use this interface with a keyboard/mouse is god damned retarded.

Re: Windows 8?
Can you imagine a touchscreen for a desktop?
They already have them: Touchscreen Monitors
That would be a pain in the ass. No way am I reaching up to my monitor when I have a nice, ergonomic mouse in a comfortable position.
For most circumstances, I agree. Well, for ANY home use, I agree.
This is what Win8 makes me think of:

I'm holding out for a gestural interface.
Minority Report style? I think I read somewhere that some shit like that is in the works.

Yep. Here it is: Minority Report fiction becoming a reality
Large-scale motion and gesture-controlled computing is no longer confined to science fiction movies, as Los Angeles-based Oblong Industries again demonstrates its exciting software that gives users a fresh new way to interact with computers.

Re: Windows 8?
True. I guess, like Jon said earlier: interfaces like this don't quite lend themselves (yet) to data entry and actual computing.
